To be honest, I could never ever fathom the concept of a "PERFECT" game. I mean think about it...there are "GOOD" games, but certain games that some people consider "GOOD" could be considered "SHIT" in someone else's eyes. No, a "PERFECT" must be able to please EVERYBODY, RTS fans, FPS fans, RPG fans, MMORPG fans...everybody...

So what do you think? Do you think a "PERFECT" game could ever be created? Do you think that there can be a game for all gamers? Do you believe in the "PERFECT" game?

I'm just waiting for Shatnershaman to get on and say that Halo 3 is beyond perfect... because that's what he'll do

i compare games with music; there are hundreds of phenominal songs out there but no one has ever called them "perfect" simply because there are so many different types of genres and styles of music that not everyone could enjoy one particular song
there are tons that people are always saying "oh you HAVE to listen to this" but only because they are fans of that particular style and appreciate it more than anyone else

No, not without two big conditions... One being getting everyone to agree on something being fun , and the other being a ridiculous amount of work put into it to make every feature perfect, not just one major focus with a lot of side elements. That would take so long, that the game would be dated by the time it came out.

Also, the thing is there could be no setting. The only way to please everyone is to have a time-travelling dimension-hopping superhuman/god who is also just a normal soldier because the argument over which type of protagonist will never be settled. Actually, that would be pretty sweet. Go from smashing someone's face in with a warhammer to shooting aliens to commanding armies to solving puzzles to racing cars/super-crazy-future-plane-things to solving mysteries to a huge haunted mansion to etc... and then level up! Wheee!

You know, that kinda sounds like Timesplitters... A little bit.

Huh.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: If you define a perfect game to mean one without flaws, then a perfect game cannot exist from an objective standpoint. Certain game mechanics (e.g. turn-based combat) are viewed by some people as positive contributors to a game and viewed by others as inherent problems. This leaves open the possibility that certain individuals will see a game as perfect even when others do not; however, if you also stipulate that a perfect game must be liked by everyone, then it is impossible to achieve perfection.

I think perfect means the best fit for it's time and place when it comes to games so yes I do think it's possible but not with the current state of the market.

Well, I think in the sense that pleasing "everybody" it is impossible as certain games don't mix AT ALL. And certain gamers don't mix either.

However, I think it might be possible to perfect a game that satisfies only one game type. A few have even come close. Alas, none have actually made it. But I think it is hypothetically possible.

-For Muhmorpagurhs, I agree with yahtzee that WoW is probably the best they are going to get.
-For FPS, I personally think BF1942 or TF2 got pretty close.
-For RTS, I think StarCraft and pretty much anything from the Total War series, with a few tweaks, could make it.
-For TBS, I think Civ4 is pretty much there, just a few millimeters short.
etc. etc. etc.

Screw you and your assumptions, I voted yes, and it is, in fact, HALO! You think Shatnershamen loves Halo? *****, I have made sweet love to the box alone more times then Shatner can count! Perfection does exist, and it's in the form of a manual page describing the ammo type for the BR.

Anyways, what's up with all the repeat threads? I know we get new people every day, but this past month is just bordering on ridiculous.

Yes, it has. By definition, games are supposed to be fun, right? So all you have to do is be high on whatever drug releases happy-hormones while playing any game.

It is kinda cheating, I know.

Probablly not. To be truly perfect, everyone would have to have the same opinion, and that's the sign of Armagheddon.

You know when I finally got halo I couldn't stop myself from drooling. Just because one person is more vocal about his halo love doesn't mean that he loves it more than me. I wold marry the halo box if I could.

I think it is possible to make the perfect game, but none out now even come close. The perfect game would have ideal graphics for the type of game, seamless controls and a storyline that is plausible, but still interesting (is it obvious I chose the third option?). It would either be possible to change everything in about the game to your liking, so you could choose what the game was, or my perfect game in which it is like Painkiller. No story, no instuctions, just you, the place you need to be and a lot of bullet fodder in between. It would also have a sign on the back which said "If you want a story, motive to play it or something with no violence, don't buy this you sad asshole!"

I'm sure it could be done, it just probably won't. Since that's such an objective observation anyway maybe mass hypnosis could do it.

There are many games that are near perfect, like Halo 3, Metroid Prime, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Although, one could argue that Pong is perfect as it did exactly what it was meant to do. Create a computer game similar to table tennis, and I've never heard of a Pong bug or glitch.

Nope; there are too many differing tastes for there to be a "perfect" game as per your description. It'd be like trying to cook the "perfect" meal, one everyone would enjoy... the only way to make it so that it wouldn't offend someone's dietary laws or preferences would be to make it too bland to be palettable. (Unless, of course, you spike it with endorphins or something but I don't think that'd pass certification.)

That might be legal in Mexico. Come to think of it, that's actually quite tame compared to a lot of stuff that's legal in Mexico.
