So far the peripheral of motion control has been a kind of "this is crap sticker" for many games. Games on the wii for instance have been rejected by much of the gaming community for the half decade it's existed. I myself have seen some great titles that make it seem more like a controller that use flicks of the wrist rather than arm flails (NBA jam, twilight princess) and others that make me wonder why someone would create such an embarrassment to the medium (watch the "help wanted" trailer). It's like finding a great sunken treasure in a massive sea of feces. So I ask you can motion control games ever consistently be good by making the motion part more fun than a conventional controller? Or will they forever be like it is now, a stupid gimmick that will just fade away eventually?

I'm not saying that it would work for many generas. I think it would be mainly for party games. I also asked that in the future can this be fixed. NOT whether they're good now. everyone know motion control games are in the gutter as far as quality goes

When we get 3D and motion control together to get Iron man type stuff: Maybe.

It could open up the door to MMOs or other games requiring a lot of extra buttons that consoles just don't have, allowing you to have a sort of touch screen command list alongside your normal stuff.

Now, much as I hate to admit it, this rant is mostly talking about the Microsoft Eyetoy Kinect, as I can see it doing much more than the Move/Wii, given that you potentially have access to unlimited numbers of "imaginary peripherals" (no more plastic instruments!) and "controllers" (imagine taking the back of a book and turning it into a keypad), rather than just a point and click controller.

Will anyone ever pick up on this idea and truly use it to it's full potential? Probably not unless they're an aggressive AI that is spying on you.

Nope...Motion controls are stupid. They are simply not as precise as buttons/analog stick/d-pad. That's it there is no mystery here. It is a gimmick in the truest sense of the word.

Motion controls are trash. Until we get technology where they can mirror pinpoint body movements at 95%+ accuracy, they'll stay trash.
The Move is prtty accurate. Its a bast to play KZ3 with the Move. Have yet to try it in 3D bu playing with the MOve mkes the game exprience feel different. How many bad guys have you shot with yur analog stick? Using a motion control (not the Wii, the Move is 100X better) you actuall have to rely on your own aiming and all your small wrist movements are actually reflected in game.

A better example is table tenis in Sports Champions. Pefect 1:1 capturing of any and all wrist movements reflected in game. I actually own a ping pong table in my basement and can basically play the exact same way on sports champions, you know other than the fact that I don't have to move aroundin Sports Champions.

This in't direced at you, but I have a feeling most people have no tried anything other than he Wii and base they're opinion of motion cntrollers solely on that. The kinect is laggy though, glad I didnt buy that POS.

Games aren't consistently good to begin with. Hell, "good" isn't even consistently defined between two different people.

Could they improve beyond the nonsense available now? Of course. They will never be for everyone, simply due to the awful history, but it's still got potential, the technology isn't really commercially viable yet though.

Well, I have to agree with Henry. Montion control can make games funnier (as Mario Kart Wii, Wii sports- by the way, why so many titles for the console have ''Wii'' in it?) if proper used, that only require easy and small motions. But for a RPG game like Zelda, that can't be healthy... And for a Shooter, the reflex to press a button is far simple than to aim and shoot (and arcades already have that...far...better).
In the end, the can be a good accessory, but never a full-porpouse control

Can motion controls be made better and used for decent games? Yeah I guess. Will I ever choose motion control over a handheld controller? I'll eat my own leg if I do.

I think there are some really fun party and exercise games out there that only really work with motion controls. I think these games can benifit from better motion controls and I wish these games had better designers behind them, I have fun with these games with a much wider group of people, people who don't play games at all normally. But I don't think I'll ever devote any time to them like I do games I love. I'm never going to be sat in my room burning though the next Wii Sports rip off alone. Hell, I doubt I'll ever pay money for something like that. But when I'm drunk at a party? I'd love to play something a little better. Even if it was something more visually interesting like Child of Eden I'd dig it.

EDIT: Also nothing is consistantly good. There's always more shit than good.

They will only ever be good if we gain the technology to get sucked into the games and play them for real... Tron style, except you don't die if you lose.

Maybe, if developers actually intigrated them in unique and immersive ways.
We're probably in the infancy stage of motion controls, they're not all that accurate or responsive and it'll take a few years of actively working with them before we can "get" how they're supposed to work. As it stands now, we're waggling and flailing.

I think every kind of game can be good. Motion games are just stuck thus far as half assed ways to get you to actually use the Wiimote, ~Move or Kinect. When developers start thinking of how to use motion controls instead of why then the games will likely get better.

Or they'll realize that controllers and keyboards have always been perfectly fine.

Sure they CAN be good, the fact is though that they AREN'T good.

That doesn't mean some innovative new developer can't have a go and create something awesome though.

I have high hopes for the PS Move after trying Tumble [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOv6l1inOwM], its fun, its precise and playing head to head is great fun (Even though there are some cheap tricks)

So yes, they can be good but they cant be better than the technology they're built on.
