It probably has to do with the reasoning that simple minds are amused by simple things.

And really, its not gun metal gray or dog shit brown, so why even bother when the game cant even get the correct colour formula.

Pong was to them what Hoovercars are to us now. Pong hasn't aged well, Hoovercars will though.

Trying to not be disrrespectful here, but this thread is stupid.

No story in Pong?, no other game modes?, ugly graphics?, geez, give it a break!, it was barely made with sticks and rocks, it was a groundbreaking game for it's time, because it was the very first game ever made.

I don't like Pong itself, but I like many clones and games inspired by it, like Arkanoid and more recently Shatter [http://store.steampowered.com/app/20820].

This isn't trolling, this is satire. God damn, that term is almost as overused as racism. Anyway, I thought it was a good job. I'm quite sick of these kinds of threads, and besides, most are about Half-Life. If those people would just use the search bar they'd get the same responses.
Well spoken sir.
And OP, just because you couldn't grasp the amazing twists and turns to the narrative of Pong, doesn't mean that if had practically no story.
Not that I blame you, some of it was very subtle, like the moment you discover that
the ball is actually Faerun.

Pong is revolutionary because of the great controls. One of the few games built for a paddle.

Fans still argue whether the original Pong or the sequel Arkanor is best. Old-school fans claim that Arkanor is too streamlined and don't capture the essence of Pong. Arkanor fans on the other hand claims that the sequel brings much more depth to the franchise.

Satire
sat·ire
noun \ˈsa-ˌtī(-ə)r\
Definition of SATIRE
1
: a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn
2
: trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/satire

Satire without wit or sarcasm to it? Well then lets see the other term used here...

Troll
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Check out OP's first post and then tell me that is not trolling...just really really bad trolling. It was about a game being crap that was made when gaming was taking its first steps. There is nothing funny or satirical about such a comment, that's just trollin. Sometimes, even if something that is overused to begin with, (the words troll/trolling) it can still be used correctly don't deny its usage when it's used right.

(sigh) I guess no matter how obvious you are, people still don't get it.

I hate it when people post on this board saying they dislike a classic game and demand a reason why said game is good. If you weren't around at the time of release, you'll never fully get it, and that doesn't make the game any worse. By sarcastically criticizing one of the first video games ever made using modern standards, I hoped to illustrate the ridiculousness of comparing older games to current ones.

Well, it being witty is debatable, fair enough. I thought it was, you're free to think it wasn't. It was definitely sarcastic, I thought that was obvious. OP's above post confirms this, as well as confirming that he was trying to point out the "folly" of threads similar to this, like the Half-Life ones every week. As for it being trolling, since his primary intent wasn't to anger people or disrupt discussion (it's his thread, what is there to disrupt?), I'd say it isn't trolling. I don't deny the words usage when it's used right, but it wasn't used right here.
