Poll: Can Sonic Team do better than what their doing now?

I'm surprised Sonic is still around to be honest. I remember playing some of the original Sonic games way back on the Sega Genesis when I was a little kid. Then again, so was Mario, and i'm about as surprised to see him still kicking as I am Sonic.

As far as the question goes... I think Sonic has had his day. Sonic team needs to try to start something new, if only to freshen up the mix a bit. But, the same could be said for almost every game company out there.

They did try something new once, it was a little title called Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Which while being over-the-top cute and kiddish was a really good game for the Gamecube. They tagged it with a bug on the cover though that said "from the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog," which may have or may not have made players view it in the same light as the Sonic titles.

On topic though, Sonic Team and it's current employees need to stop and rethink what it was that made the first game groundbreaking and take some inspiration from Sonic's history. Things like Sonic 1 being slowed down before release because it was "too fast" and that Sonic was originally SEGA's answer to Mario. It was a platformer game that ramped it up with a little extra speed and level designs to match.

Now speed's taken over his entire gameplay mechanic and he's going faster then ever. There's a point in development that you have to stop adding speed or else you can't control the character anymore.

I blame the cartoons, when a game's cartoon becomes bigger then the game itself then it's really the show that takes over. The games just start becoming more and more based off the show and for the most part games developed in that mindset are doomed from the start.

I am looking forward to Sonic 4, I really wish they went with sprites over 3D models but that's only a small complaint. I think Sonic Team could get better, they'd just have to fight off the franchise surrounding the Blue Blur and make Sonic a game again.

I beleive so, If you think about it, Sonic the hedgehog is one of the most successful game series. They have and endless number of games, 4 publicly aired TV shows (only one was any good though), and lots of merchandise.
So can they be doing better than Sonic Unleashed and Sonic the Hedgehog X360?
If so, what could they release to make everything better?

SA2B was the best 3D Sonic game I've ever played, despite the semi-annoying hunts as Rogue and Knuckles.

The hunts weren't so bad, i enjoyed those levels, the exploring and finding upgrades, the slower pace helped enjoyed the faster paced speed levels.

The "mash shoot button and move laser over things that need to die" of tails and eggman were a horrible though.

the only thing bad about the new sonic game coming out is the episodic element.

I Think they can do better, they produced 2 decent enough 3D sonic's (Sonic Adventure 1 and 2) but will they do better in the future... I Dont know...

Sumo Digital at least made a Decent Kart Racer Featuring Sonic and crew, Maybe Sumo Digital should take over from sonic team LOL

ok heres the truth from me. sonic team is acting like a bunch of twits but their fans are acting like even bigger twits. The fans can't make their mind about what they want. Sonic and the black night and shadow the hedgehog was partially our faults. They actually listen after sonic team lost a large chunk of it's original staff and we pull a bunch of excrement out of our rears like it was fan fiction. When sega was being jerk wads like twitendo( and not listening to us) they did splendid on their games. And now they are listening to the fans again because the bitched and twaddled on about how great the old games were and how the new ones suck. Here is what sonic team needs to do. look back at the sonic adventure series and the 2d series and combine the best of both worlds and cut some (who am i kidding) most of the characters they have added over the years, there is only one character that i can think of that was new and halfway decent in the last 5 years and that is blaze the cat. I thought they were already on the right track. I don't care what anyone says I liked unleashed and black knight, sonic 4 might be good but it looks like they might be going down the megaman route. ie. Making the same repetitive shit every damn game because fanboys will eat it up, except you can't please old school sonic fans because the are even whinier (thats probably not a real word but whatever) than COD and Halo fans, but instead of giving complete and utter devotion they treat it like it came into their house and kicked their pregnant wife in the stomach
