Poll: Can you defeat yourself

I am not sure if this has been said yet and I don't feel like reading through all the posts. Anyway:
Could it not be possible that the future self needed money because he successfully robbed you, thus when you get the point in the future where you are him, you need money, thus you go back and rob yourself... and then the cycle continues.
Moderately short story shorter, you go back in time to rob yourself for money because you are low on money ever since you robbed yourself back in time.

That's...essentially what my second scenario was? The one in which you lose to your future self. Maybe not exactly the same, but effectively similar.

Are you asking if that's what I meant or are you proposing a different scenario?

If the latter, I'd love to hear it. I actually like pondering on these sorts of topics.

Me and me both know what we'd do if we got the chance to be different persons: Play Tetris Attack all-out on SNES and see who wins. Our battle will be legendary! At least for me. i wish I knew people that could make chains, combos and come up with strategies with the different colored blocks.
And I'd also like to know how he grew that beard (I saw someone here that also has gaps; you have my sympathy, man).
But myself should already know... I don't give my money easily (except to people with guns). If he's not armed, then we got ourselves a good fight coming up. > We would also do it... FOR SCIENCE!
So the order of events would be: Epic doppelganger battle > He tells me how he got beard all over the face > Epic Tetris Attack battle > use the final results to settle who will work and who plays games each week/month/year > he will have to find another girlfriend, since that could easily go terribly wrong.

No, your right, I realized I misread the post, sorry about that.
Though, in the spirit of trying to keep a talk going since you like the topic, it could be possible that after defeating yourself from the future, you could come to the realization that in the future, something will happen that will cause you to be so desperate for money that you consider robbing yourself in the past to be a viable option, thus you go in to training to get better. When the time comes that for some reason you think robbing yourself is the best option, you have trained yourself to be better at fighting. Fully confident that your training has prepared you, you go back, fully bearded, ready to go, only to unfortunately get defeated by your past self.
I know that is a stretch, but it is possible.
Then again, I guess that depends on how you view defeating your future self in the first place. I gave it a shot.

Since I don't want to be locked in an infinite loop, I'd probably just run.

I am me and would not attack myself in such a crude fashion; it is counter productive. In that same vein, I, being myself, am relatively certain of my place in the universe to the extent that I am aware that I am me. Thus, were I attacked by someone I would assume they were not me as I have fair evidence that suggests I am not inclined to such action nor am I physically able to do such a thing.

Why would I do that? I'd have a much greater chance of getting money off myself if I just asked nicely, so threatening myself seems pretty stupid on my part. Since this person clearly isn't me, although they appear to be my double, I would run.

Oh you meant in the literal sense.

It would be a good fight as I'm a bit of a beast, and I rarely if ever get into fights and when I do I usually win by size and endurance alone (It's hard for most people to even consider fighting someone as tall as me, and while I don't work out very often I have a lot of strength)... It would be quite interesting.

That said I really can't picture it ending any other way than how Scott Pilgrim's fight against his other self went. "Nice guy, we're gonna get coffee sometime." etc.

By the way, this is all a trick question as I know for a fact that I don't have any money. Hell I know that better than anyone else.

Your new scenario is pretty interesting. Tenacity and desperation at it's finest, it seems. The idea that, even after already defeating your future self, you come to the idea that you could repeat the feat, only against your past self.

Were it me, though, I'd be more inclined to attempt a different path. To find a different way to find the money.

'Course, that would rely on the idea that incursions into the past can alter events going into the future. Something that requires the concept of multiple dimensions so as to not lead to paradoxes.

I guess it boils down to how we're viewing time-travel in these scenarios. A discussion of which often leads to conundrums and migrains.

I hurt myself all the time, knowing me I will trip while attacking myself and fall flat on my face as I laugh at my criminal ineptitude and walk past myself laughing to myself.

I would probably give me the money either way though, I could use some extra cash.

And no matter how the battle plays out it ends with me having my money so it doesn't really matter I guess.

By definition, I'd be an even match for myself. There's no reason why one of me can't take the other in a fight, because we'd have the same physical attributes, skills, and reflexes (such as they are).

Though knowing me, we'd probably stop fighting and get into a discussion about identity; whether the alternate me has the same memories and experiences.
