Just as the title says, can you defend yourself when it comes to fighting.

Me, well i know Karate pretty good, im curently a brown belt, so i dont know everything but i know alot. If someone throws a punch i have about 30 billion different ways to either break their arm, break their ribs, break their neck, kill them, or just fuck them up pretty damn bad.

But Fighting isnt about how well you know martial arts, while martial arts helps imensly the ability to be light on your feet and react quicly is what its all about. Me and a friend were playing around with a fake knife, it was a plasitc toy knife, and we where fighting full speed to see how we'd fair in a knife fight. I blocked his attack, pushed up his arm, and elbowed him in the gut, disorienting him, and then i disarmed him.

Keep in mind as far as i know that wasnt a combination or a form, it was just me thinking on my feet.

So, my fellow Escpaists, how whell would you fair in a fight.

I've gotten in a few fights in my day, and I've won most of them, but I can't say I will be able to kick everyone's ass (hence the reason why I said "most of them").

The funniest fight i saw was some white dude trying to tell a pimp to lay off his ho that he was beating. The pimp got mad and walked over to the white dude and started a fight. Before the pimp could throw a punch the white dude back-fisted the pimp to the temple and knocked him out cold. Turns out the white guy was a black belt karate instructor.

OT: I wish probably do ok against someone my size-ish. I would go for a quick shot to the jugular or temple, hoping for a one shot KO.

Somehow, every time I've NEARLY gotten into a fight, there's been a distraction every single time.

I can hold my own ok, but I lost the last two fights I had on the account that I was jumped by several guys.

I can say with a considerable amount of confidence that I would not fare well in a fight. I haven't been in one in a long time, and I have studied some martial arts since then, but I'm fairly positive that I'd still freeze up and/or try to just run away.

Failing that I am legendarily clumsy and would probably injure myself. I'm an ass-kicker--said ass tends to be my own, however.

I can DEFEND myself. But I'm rather weak when it comes to the Offense, so the best I can do is hope the other guy tires out or ends up punching a tree if I dodge or something, my stances are full of holes when it comes to offense that I'm better off not trying.
Note that this mostly all comes from sparing. I'm apparently very adept at punching people in a Fist of the North Star-esque flurry when I'm mad, but I never remember it.

I hit hard, have high pain tolerance and have a tendency to go for the eyes/testicles, not stopping until my opponent loses enough of either to think better of taking me.

Am I fighting fair?
Probably not.

But seriously, why would I do that. It's a fight, the idea is to not get hurt.

So yes, I would win.

I could defend myself fairly well while fighting. It takes a lot to bring me down anyways so I think the other person would get tired by then and I could throw a punch in.

None of the options really matched my scenario.

First of all, I am pretty effective at AVOIDING trouble. I haven't had to fight anyone in several YEARS. That said, I have little knowledge of my actual combat ability.

I do train.

I do practice what martial arts I have learned.

*shrug* As for fairing in a fight, I cannot say these days. I think I would surprise many people because of how gentle I am normally.

Edit:

For the record: The purpose of combat is to incapacitate an opponent. Nothing else. It isn't a matter of swapping punches until one of your gives up. By the time I was in a situation that I believed fighting to be [bold]necessary[/bold]... There are no warning punches, I am not warming up on you... I am fighting until one of us is going to the hospital.

It's all about training. If you have been training, then you have learned not only how to punch somebody, but you reflexively enter a 'fighting' mindset. You've done certain things over and over and over again, training your mind and body to a specific reaction to a specific stimulus. So if someone attacks you, instead of thinking, "holy shit, I'm being attacked!" you react with a defensive maneuver.

Myself, I am untrained. Back when I was a kid, we'd play-wrestle, but I wasn't kidding around. A buddy would grab me around the waist and I'd elbow them in the belly 'til they let go. No one wanted to play with me because I wasn't afraid to hurt them. I think if I was attacked by an average stranger I could probably defend myself successfully with sheer ruthlessness. If they had any sort of training or weapon or size advantage, I'd be in big trouble.
