cinematic trailers: no, unless its detailing the story to some degree

game play trailers: yes, since it'll be the meat of what you'll be doing

NEVER trust a game by its cinematic trailer.

NEVER trust a game by its gameplay trailer.

Reasons: A cinematic trailer is just a distraction, a diversion. It has little to nothing to do with how much enjoyment you will get out of the game itself. However, the gameplay trailer is a completely different beast of trickery and deceit. You see, watching someone play a game leaves out the complications of the game's interface and while the playtester might be perfectly suited to the controls and paradigms of the game, you might not be able to enjoy or get into it.

One of my ex's put this into perspective for me. She loved watching me play Ocarina of Time but she hated playing the game herself. I was used to the controls and could make Link dance around like he was an extension of myself. She couldn't get into the game because she did not have this familiarity and that killed the experience for her.

The Lesson: Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Roflno.
Most trailers are just non-gameplay cgi garbage that probably won't even be in the actual thing as cutscenes anymore.
Even "gameplay trailers" are oftenly cut together in some way that doesn't resemble actual gameplay in any way at all.
At best, you can make a fuzzy guesstimation about the games atmosphere but that's all there is.
