I can't swim, but i don't live by water anyways. I couldn't ride a bike for a long time, because there were no sidewalks.

...it still amazes me when an adult can't do one or both of those things. I consider them part of elementary physical education... if ya can't do both by the time you're a teenager (barring disabilities preventing such), something is wrong. I was off training wheels and swimming in a rough river before I was seven... but I was raised in the middle of nowhere, in the 80s.

*looks up two posts* I won't detail my other physical feats and proficiency with dangerous equipment...
...but I'd like to learn wingsuit BASE jumping.

Well, I was on a swim team until shortly after I hit high school...So yeah I can swim, and pretty well at that. Biking, I was never as involved in, but I never had any difficulty to speak of. So both for me.

That's just how talented I am :D

I use to swim and cycle a lot when I was a kid, especially during the summer holidays.

But then I grew up and got lazy :D
Hhhowww?! I know you're Daystar but how fucking how?

OT- I'm a teenager who can't get by without swimming or biking, especially in the summer.

Feats of oddly specific and pointless acts of physical prowess were all part of my training to become the Daystar.
Wait, there were more of you?!

I have horrendous balance, so I can't ride a bike.

I can swim, though. My mommy says I'm a good swimmer, too. :3

I've been able to swim when I was younger but I wasn't able to swim very well. I've never really learned how to ride a bike. Technically I should have put down a no for both of them but I could probably survive a little while in the deep end of a pool without drowning.

Can do both easily. Well, I can cycle well enough to go on a 3-day cycling trip with a good friend of mine, and can swim well enough to be both fully qualified and work as a lifeguard.

I can ride a bike but I can't swim.

I can't swim because I find myself unable to float. I can't trust the water to support me. I try but I feel myself start to sink and then I panic. I can't stop myself. I just can't do it. I recall one time as a child I learned how to float in the sea once, but I've never been able to do it before or since. I think it might have something to do with the fact I'm skinny as shit.
Pshhh, floating is for losers and people who want to do that silly competition swimming. I too have no ability to float. So instead I just held my breath as long as I could and learned how to stay under as long as possible. My swimming teacher hated me cause I was always the one going off under the water doing twists and loops. Stupid moron tried to instill the idea that the only type of swimming worth caring about was competitive. I actually beat a few people in 'races' swimming under water while they stroked on the surface but was 'disqualified' because I didn't use any "approved" strokes. So I quit swimming lessons and just went to the pool on my own. Spent many a hour just throwing those sinking rings and stuff into the pool and trying to see how many I could get before having to go back up for air, in the deep end. Eventually I ran out of sinkers to toss.

More recently though I feel like my lack of swimming has taken a toll on my ability. I almost drowned in lake Michigan. I decided to swim out past the sandbar, like an idiot. The bottom dropped out and the waves were at least a foot and I, again like an idiot, swam straight into them. I didn't realize how deep into shit I was until I was nearly dead tired. Had to flag down my dad, who is a freakishly strong swimmer, to help. Freaked my mom out. Still my confidence was good enough that I swam there the following day a few dozen feet from where the tide was flowing out, inside the sandbar this time though.

Biking is a given, my dad is a big biker so from a young age I was on a bike for most of the summer that I wasn't swimming. I tend to go on 5 mile rides for exercise/fun, though I could do so much longer if my area wasn't so damn hilly. Did a 15 mile ride once, felt like death for an hour after it though that was mostly because my dad was setting the pace pretty fast.

Learn side stroke. It's the most efficient, doesn't require floating on your stomach or back. You should still learn to float though, if possible.

I forgot that I had to get saved by a life guard once when I was 9 or so. Got stuck on the side of a wave pool.

I never learned to do either as a kid, but I learned how to ride a bike about a year ago.

I learned to swim and ride a bike when I was very young. Expanded on swimming skills at summer scout camp. I was a little behind the other guys there, but I did manage to get my merit badge before the end.

I learned to ride a bike at my grandmother's summer cabin. Got my first bike for christmas. I was 5 or 6.

You really should, because it could end-up saving your life some day. As for floating, the key is to relax. I can understand given your experience that isn't easy, but the water is NOT your enemy. Lean back slowly and Cup your hands and use them to keep pushing your head above the water. When you get comfortable enough with floating you'll be able to do it lying still (for a short time) just remember to keep your limbs spread appart. Just because the water may come-up over your chest does NOT mean you will sink all the way to the bottom. You'll never float completely over the top of the water, so don't worry if only your face is still above the water as long as you keep your body horizontal.
That doesn't work for everyone, I sink like a rock no matter what I try. Though everyone I know finds it amusing since people aren't suppose to sink. I can still swim though, the only problem is when I stop moving.

As for the other part of the question I can also ride a bike.
