The WHO said that they don't necessarily cause cancer, but they are erring on the side of caution and saying that they might. There is no conclusive evidence but they might and they suggest people play it safe.

This statement has been making the rounds for years now, and I am more surprised that this seems to be the topic of many a thread on the escapist. If you think that this statement is true, or at least has a little validity to it, then text. I mean, that is what I mainly use my phone for, but that is because I dislike talking to people on the phone. So in short I don't really care as I believe that this statement has been blown out of proportion. I would be more concerned by consuming burnt food on a regular basis than spending too much time on my phone.

We might have a similar rule here but I don't think so. If we do the loophole is that the companies only need to discuss the findings of their own studies. All of the studies sponsored by the phone companies say that there's "no conclusive evidence" and don't elaborate beyond that. The independent studies tend to always be a bit more revealing. It's more than just the phone industry too. The government is still trying to get the tobacco industry to admit that tobacco is bad for people.
OK, so this is kinda off topic, but is your cigarette packages labeled with "Smoking Kills" and other various warnings. Here the packages has to be labeled with various unpleasant facts, including that it causes cancer, chronic obstructive lung disease, bad teeth, bad skin and images showing just how bad it may look. It can be picture of someone with serious gum problems or even the lung of a dead smoker.

It's cool.
You Canadian? Some of those pics on the packs are gruesome.
In the States they have to print a small "Surgeon General's Warning" on the narrow side of the pack. Usually things like "Cigarette Smoking May be hazardous to your health." or "Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide."
No Shit, right?
When I want a smoke, I go for the packs that say "Smoking by pregnant women May cause fetal injury, low birth weight, and premature birth" because I know I'm never going to be pregnant.

Nah, I'm Norwegian, and yeah, there's some pretty nasty pictures on some of them. Still it doesn't seem to reduce the number of people who smoke, nor the system of making it harder to buy cigarettes by making it hard to find and browse.
