One thing that has always pissed me off, is when I go onto youtube, and looked for a great music video; only to find that is has been censored. For example
In the fucking title it says "Shit" yet in the video its "hit". In my mind this is like smearing crap on a beuatiful painting. I honestly dont understand why people would censor a song that one of the main theme words is a swear. In my opinion if the song has swears in it and you cant have that on your page/channel then you should not be hosting/posting it on your page/channel.

*Deap breathe*

Now I get it that some times the these songs make it into the abatrary top ten so you "have to" censor it. So im asking is it ok to censor a song for no good reason? Your not putting your own spin on that song, your not improving it in any way. So I dont see the point. If you think the swears are inappropriate then the song it self should also be inappropriate for you.

Earlier this year, some idiot in Nova Scotia complained that Money for Nothing by Dire Straits was homophobic because it's lyrics included the word "******" being repeated in one verse. Cue big kerfuffle over song censorship.

Canada's censorship groups got the song banned from the air. Radio stations said "fuck that shit" and played it anyways. Censors backed down.

That I think comes from the televised version, which network censors most likely just removed the "s" so they don't have the FCC breathing down the necks.

Of course, the existence of the FCC is also very stupid.

As long as you can switch over, or close the window then there shouldn't be any censorship

You should run this shit.

Exactly this. It's exactly the same as internet censorship. It's not the internets fault you're looking at disembodied child porn, you get out what you put in you sicko's.

Or slightly covering up the shock value of an artist whose primary draw is shock and vulgarity.

Hey, I like Manson, but I'm realistic.

Anyway, I don't like censored music and I'm against it on principle. I don't have to like what you're saying, but the removal of words annoys me more than the lack.

Howabout not marketing this stuff to children? Like any parent wants their 12 year old listening to Manson or Eminem anyway.

Music censorship is evil; in fact, ALL forms of censorship are wrong, retarded and completely illogical.

I vote yes to censoring music.

I personally dislike it in just about every way but I see it's purpose. Music lyrics can be about any subject matter regardless of appropriateness. There is language and content that is probably best to keep away from young kids or simply not be overheard in an office work place.

Having said that, I see no reason why the same music couldn't be played uncensored on radio stations that are clearly for adult audiences only. In the case of Youtube, I'd imagine you could find the video in it's full uncensored form on a less kid accommodating website.

Maybe for some radio stations but youtube shouldn't be. At the very least there should be an uncensored version (if there is I see no problem with this). Censorship should be a choice.

Any explanation used to support censorship can easily be countered with, "Why not? It's done in the Bible?"

Swearing? Dunnit.
Gratuitous Violence? Dunnit.
Rape? Dunnit.
Incest? Dunnit.
Child Murder? Dunnit.
Use of convoluted metaphors designed to brainwash your children into being cultists? Owned that shit!
/jk

Seriously though, the fundamental reasoning behind censorship is "I know better than you." And we all know that's BS.

I think it's actually record companies who censor these songs so they can be played on radios and TV stations that would have otherwise rejected them. Is it a good policy? No. Obviously, it pays, but it also diminishes artistic value. If the lyrics contain the word "fuck," for example, the song is incomplete without it.

Which reminds of of a hillarious song by Flight of the Conchords. http://youtu.be/Bqxnm6t3QMw

Wow. WOW. Did the people who got this track banned know any other English words except "******?" Because they don't seem to have understood the whole song.

I say censor the readily accessible stuff. I can't justify not censoring music when even anyone objects. It's the reason I don't blast my music. You can't know who will be offended, so it's better not to cause the problem. Parents should watch over their kids more if they are concerned. It's possible to do that without being oppressive.

As a rap fan, I'm used to it.

People don't censor the Statue of David's penis and as such they should not censor music.
There are no inequal art forms.

It should not happen. I won't say never, because there are always exception, but in general, it is a terrible thing.

I think my most hated example is when I bought a digital version of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life from Life of Brian.
I'm halfway through listening to my copy for the first time and Eric Idol says "Life's a piece of SPIT, when you look at it!"
