if i'm going to be watching some attractive, athletic figure prance around in front of me for hours at a time [i'm thinking of two moons MMORPG here] i prefer to look at a female character.

where as in EVE, i have two accounts.
my first account is male, and the second account was for a friend of mine, so we sat and made a character that looked like her.

i keep them both for sentimental reasons.
i notice that when i play the female character people act differently towards me than the male character.
till they ask me if i really look like the character, and i let them know the story behind how i am playing a female.

and by the way, i like the review of eve by Zero Punctuation.
i really like the game, but i can see the way that some people could not.

i really like the part about it being for the nerds, nerd, and how it is a job that you pay to do.

hey, maybe i am just a geek, but at least i am having a good time.

I gotta say, usually I try to make a me, but there's rarely a 'fat bastard' option, so I tend to make a me that's a regular kinda guy!

Strangely enough, Def Jam - Fight For New York had one of the best, it wasn't hugely deep, but the visual style meant I got someone who was recognisibly me, also the Ryu and Guile and my mate that I made all looked pretty good too.

I spend ages trying to make stunningly attractive female characters.. who I often give one, actrociously weird feature, because let's face it, no one's allowed to be perfect on my watch. I love playing with the chin and eyebrow slider on Oblivion. Fun stuff. Hate the female hairstyles, though.

I like to make something that's in keeping with the game's theme. Usually I try to avoid making overly TALL characters, though I often, if given the choice, make them short versions of whatever they are.

I hated the customization in Age of Conan so very much (well that and a lot of the game, really) because I felt like making my Assassin a short, thin, wiry guy that just sort of hinted at muscles. Not fat, not muscled, just... "easily overlooked", something I'd picture was ideal in an Assassin. Yeah, fat chance. There was no way of making something that didn't look like it regularly does two hundred and fifty pull-ups before breakfast.

For some reason, the lack of real options in... say... WAR and WoW both, never really bothered me. I could always find a look there that I liked, and their lack of body sliders never bothered me. But when you SUPPLY such sliders, make them have a fugging EFFECT on your toon, OK?

Best char customization EVER was City of Heroes/Villains. There has never been greater character customization ever. I never enjoyed the game at all, but making characters was HYSTERICAL. I made SO MANY of the blighters...

Guilty! I make myself first, then other things. Nothing more satisfying (imo) than seeing "you" beating the snot out of hordes of demons/soldiers etc. Especially after a long day.

I once made an Orc that look very much like Jay Leno in oblivion. In a star wars game, when given the choice I always go for a sexy female twillek.

In fact I very often pick a female avatar (actually a rather hairy Mancunian man.) Anybody else have a propensity for gender-bending in video game avatars?

Last time I played Oblivion I tried to make Emperor Pirk, but he came out looking like a warped version of the guy who plays Mal and Captain Hammer.

Well, I *try* to make it look like me and be creative with it at the same time! The trademark ponytail is a must, but a lot of character creators are very limited and only have a set amount of actual faces (unlike the Sims which is completely dynamic), with a few sliders that generally make very little difference.

But, I try my best.

This sounds sad, because it is, but if I can make a hot chick, that scores more points and patience for a game then it might deserve.
