on that note, Garrus should definitely come back. although seeing as anybody could die, they'll only be coming back if you import, seeing as a fresh start on ME2 meant Wrex was dead, Bioware might pull a similar dick move for somebody who played the first and second games on different formats.

Garrus, Tali, Joker, Mordin. Thane would be nice, but there are too many "One year from now..." or "One year left..." foreshadows to assume he'll still be alive in ME3. Probably same with Grunt if you forget/refuse to wake him up, as his life support would shut down after a year.
If I were to choose one person, it would be Garrus. He is my most used character in both games. Tali not so much, especially since we get her so late in ME2, and I didn't really find her interesting in ME1.

Tali was always awesome, if you want to see her naive side shine through again choose her as a romantic option.
This was always my chosen team as soon as they were both available to me. Would not like to see one of them disappear
In my option Garrus Vakarian is just awesome and was always my right hand man through out both games, so I'd like to see him return in ME3. I liked and choose to romance Miranda Lawson and it would be nice to see my romance come back in the next game. I thought Jacob Taylor was a cool character, and of course Mordin Solus the fast talking genius is a must. I would love to have Urdnot Wrex back but I know that's unlikely since he's leading the Krogans, but I liked Urdnot Grunt hes ready very willing and able to beat on all your enemy's.
Tali'Zorah nar Normandy was a good character and since Normandy is her home she'll probably be back. I didn't really like Jack, depending on how far into the future ME3 is Thane Krios may have already died, Samara said she was leaving and Legion I thought was ok but if he's replaced with a better character I wouldn't miss him. Zaeed Massani and Kasumi Goto where both guns for hire and very shallow I liked Zaeed a little in the unlikely event you hired them for the next mission I hope they have more depth.

EDIT: It's a tough contest for me because I like all the characters a lot. I gotta go for Garrus though since he's such a bro...but I still want a HUGE goddamn role for Tali. She needs to play a big part with the looming geth/quarian conflict resolution.
I want to see a bigger role for Liara. If you heard what she'd been up to between the frist and second games, then you'd probably know why, unless they resolve that in ME2 DLC. Which I hope they don't.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I completed it with wrex alive on the xbox, then completed it with wrex alive on PC. My pc could barely play ME, so the odds of the second working on it were slim. So I borrowed ME 2 from a friend for the xbox, but because my xbox had broken and a new one had been bought a year later, I didn't have the save information.
