If you want to cheat in a single player game more power to you. I almost never do that, unless I have completely beaten a game and just want to screw around, because once the challenge is gone so is the fun for me. I never understood people who cheat, but of course everyone gets different things out of games.

Now cheating online is a completely different thing and pretty despicable. I would say like someone who cheats at poker. If found out they deserve a black eye in a back alley.

I only ever cheated on the old NES games like Contra, just to level the playing field and making the challenge at least reasonable. Now, never. I don't cheat nor do I twink in multiplayer games. I enjoy a challenge. I relish in defeating bosses or making it through tough battles that others would simply give up and walk away from. I much prefer playing a game as it was intended and soaking up every morsel of atmosphere and story contained therein. I've got friends that do nothing but look for cheats when they are not gaming, and then browse auctionhouses for upgrades when they are. I do not see the point when it's so much more fun to reach that top tier of gamer without outside assistance.

On one hand I might mock you for it, and your opinion on the game becomes worthless, but on the other hand I won't begrudge you playing the game the way you want, even if I think that way is silly. This of course applies only to single player games, if someone is cheating in a MP game (including Co-Op) they are absolutely an asshole and I hope they get carpel tunnel.

You know, I wanted to say "cheaters suck". But then I thought about Street Fighter.

There were modified versions of Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting back in the 90's and I used to hate those versions.
But without them, we wouldn't have some of the sequels that exist now.

In short, sometimes cheating can become part of the game. If I was a developer, I'd be paying attention to the way players cheat, and try to cash in on that. I mean, isn't part of Skyrim's charm on PC the fact that you can modify the gameplay?

I play for challenge, but I love to screw around in the game as well. Best game for cheats ever invented IMO was the old Golden Eye and the original Perfect Dark: you could get some obscenely great cheats, but you had to earn those cheats. Getting unlimited ammunition in Golden Eye you had to do the most ludicrous speed run ever with 50+ Soviets on your ass in Facility, and Perfect Dark had you speed running the last boss in the game to get one of the better cheats. Shame those great unlocks of yesteryear are now called "DLC" :(

I don't have an issue with people using cheats in a single player game.
When I use cheats it?s usually because I?m testing something (which is often because I use mods for a lot of games) or so I can go on crazy rampage reload my game afterwards. I don't actually get that much satisfaction out of feeling like unstoppable god unless it's by pulling something off that is actually very difficult (for me anyway, I'm sure many would find what I find difficult a cakewalk). Its fun for a few minutes but gets boring really fast.
I rarely use cheats to progress or circumvent an aspect of the game though I will look a guide if I'm stuck for too long. That said I exploit poor AI more than I should which is pretty much cheating.

Believe me, if I could spawn enemy dragons in skyrim on the xbox, I would be in my room for years.

I used to cheat when I was much younger.

I have nothing against it nowadays, but I do find it kind of boring. Not to mention it makes the games shorter.
Lately I've been choosing the hardest difficulties in games. I find this to be a much more enjoyable practice.

How does someone's opinion on a game become worthless if they cheat?

Today almost no game features cheats (at least on console). Since i start getting into collecting trophies and enjoying a challenge i don`t cheat on my first playthroughs. If i`m feeling "done" with the game i try out cheats.

My first time playing is always cheat-free, but after that, I LOVE cheats, and it makes me horribly mad when games don't have them D:

I find cheating fun, but it removes the challenge. So I will play a game through without cheats, then go to town after. This is also why I like games which let you access cheats after a play-through, or give you a new game+ mode. It's like they want me to kick back and relax after the hard work.

I haven't played a game where cheating actually meant something in a very long time.

Mostly because games are getting easier.

That's right I said it!

Unless you count using a guide as "cheating" in that case I do it all the time
But only on my second playthrough, or I get stuck in a way that is halting my progress.

Actually that's not true, ever since they patched Borderlands 2 I haven't been able to play it.

You might say I rely to much on the Evil Smasher + Vengeful Infinity glitch but shut up. If they didn't want me to glitch my way to Super OP God Mode they should make the legendary drop rates like 90% or something because I'm not going to take 45 minutes to kill a boss and get absolutely nothing for my effort. (I must have killed the Warrior over 1000 times with out ever getting an orange drop.

Some times I play games for a challenge. Some times I play games for exploration. Some times I play games for the narrative. Some times I play games to wreck shit like a sweet corn land mine.

really it depends what kind of mood I'm in, but I usually find them enjoyable if there an option.

Cheating in mp? No, never! There is no excuse for it.

Cheating in sp? Yeah, sure. Usually once I've finished playing a game legitimately and there actually are ways to cheat (not as evident anymore), I like me some messing around.

I think the main misconception here is that people "cheat" only because they can't beat the game otherwise. That couldn't be further from truth, of course. I mean sometimes it's fun to just mess around and all. And nobody is stopping anyone from going for a "serious" playthrough when they so desire.

So, "cheating" is SP is a non-issue, and in MP? Well, as long as the ground stays even for everyone, everyone can also do whatever they want. So, "cheating" in MP to gain an upper hand and ruin the experience for others is a no-no but if everyone involved agrees on a "hey, let's just mess around for a bit", then that's OK too.
