GTA is the only game I think I've routinely used cheats. Otherwise I think it takes some of the fun out of it. Like, without the challenge, why bother?

Personally speaking, if I see a game on the shelf that I think looks like fun, I'll go home and find cheat codes for it. If I can't find or don't like the codes for said game, I don't buy it.

That being said, I don't play games online as a general rule, nor do I play multi-player games with other people.

Cheat codes now a days are lame. Games are so easy now you don't need codes. The last game I recall using codes for are any of the GTA games, come on, who didn't do that? But it wasn't to beat the game... just to screw around and have fun.

I remember back in the day when they actually meant something (Blood code for MK on sega anyone? lol) knowing that made you the cool kid on the block lol.

Very rarely. Typically i'd use them to, ironically enough, make the game more difficult for me to try to make things more interesting. Strategy Game Example: Give myself a massive amount of money, only to give a majority of it to the other factions in order to give them a fighting chance.

I usually use cheats in a game after I've completed it legit.

As an example, I beat Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance long ago and nowadays when I play through the game again I like to get a trainer up and use it to increase my population limit so I can have a massive sprawling base without worrying about having to utilize a smaller army because of it. I like watching my gigantic armies in SupCom go head to head with that of the enemy.

I also sometimes mess around with cheats in Crysis and Crysis Warhead. I tweak the difficulty files and pump more power into Maximum Armor as well as make it so Maximum Speed and Cloak don't use as much energy. But in return, I make the enemy AI much harder to deal with.

Cheats and trainers can add more fun and a longer life to your games, but using them to, y'know, actually cheat the game without having beat it once properly is, to me, dishonourable. As is using them in multiplayer.

I never use cheats when playing against other people. I will use them after completing a game though as they can bring different aspects to it. They can also be good fun, such as in GTA vice city giving all the padestrians guns and making them fight each other and then making all the drivers go apeshit bonkers.
I loved that cheat...right up until they started chasing me.

I almost always don't use them at all, and usually if I do, it's to goof around with stuff after already having finished the game. There are exceptions, though.

The biggest that comes to mind is American McGee's Alice. As a game, it's absolutely awful, but the character and level design is great, and it was totally worth turning on god mode and setting a key to toggle noclip/flying for emergencies when I missed jumps with the wonky controls so I wouldn't have to reload my save yet again, just so I could see all the fun stuff in the game. If I'd actually had to play the game the "right" way to do that, I would've been very cranky (and probably just not have bothered).

Along those lines, I was very upset that RE4 makes you beat the game first before you can use the cheats, because I wouldn't have minded seeing how the game ended, but the gameplay really disagrees with me (although a lot less so than the earlier RE games; at least I can see why some people like RE4 a lot, while I could never understand how anyone liked the first one), and I ended up getting sick of it halfway through and went to play something fun instead.

If you're going to put a bunch of cheats and brokenly powerful weapons in a game that make it easier, don't make me have to already be good at it and have the patience/persistence to beat the game first to be able to use them, because that kind of defeats the point.

After I beat a game. I enjoy the challenge and, sometimes, fear that comes with being completely vulnerable.

Though I see no harm in using them if you're super stuck. As long as it's not a multiplayer game, who cares?

Depends what I am playing but generally no. When I go back to Oblivion on PC I do use them (and have fun) but on Xbox generally I do not as I kind of like achievements.

Depending on what kinds of cheats they are, I will use them if they don't alter the experience i'm going for. I usually play a game through at least once before i will use cheats. After that, if the cheat makes the second or third playthrough more fun or interesting, then i will use it. Otherwise I stay away from them. I don't count "cheats" that you can get in game, like unlocking unlimited ammo for a gun in RE4 or unlimited mode for characters in BlazBlue, as cheats. Something where you have to go online and look up something, like the Konami code, I would consider to be a cheat.
