Simple question. When (if ever) do you cheat? From actual codes to looking on the internet for every single item or power up, or whatever you do.

depends what the cheat is? if iits something like invincibility il probly never use it, or use if after completing the game and just want to mess around then i may use it,
the only time il put a cheat into a game im playing is to mess around or the cheat doesnt impact the game by making it too easy (so cheats to give giant headed characters or colour switch)

It really depends on the game. Most of the time I try to go through cheat-free. If I get really stuck on something I usually cheat. Some games though I consult a walkthrough from the start, if that counts. When it comes to treasure-hunting and such things I guess I almost always "cheat" via walkthroughs.

Unless a game is exceptionally good or has multiple story paths, I pretty much never replay them.

wasn't sure how to vote in the poll.

Back in the day when games were hard I would usually pull a cheat(infinite life/ammo) just to search the game and see if I could find anything I may have missed. Now I run through a game twice(legitimately), first for the story, second for completion(if I care that much)

I abuse the game with cheats only after having completed it on my lonesome. When I've finished the main storyline in a GTA, for instance, its people will cower in fear from the flying tank.

Yeah, I confess I love to cheat on the old PC games. JK2 is just so much fun if you've got full force powers on the first mission...

But I don't cheat normally. I only looked up the treasure locations in RDR because I wanted to finally have 100%.

They take away from the replay value of a game, not to mention stripping away the whole challenge aspect, so I always try to avoid cheats. If I'm really, really stuck on part of a game I'll maybe go onto a forum to look for Help/FAQ files, but I always ensure they're spoiler free.

I never go out of the games design to cheat. Like, I'd never use a trainer for Fallout 3, but I would use the "Secrets" option in Jak II to get infinite Dark Jak after getting 175 Precursor Orbs. I would, however, cheat in a multiplayer game that was made by a developer I loathe to a large degree, such as MW and MW2, and I do, and I don't give a fuck.

When I was young I used to use cheats all the time. Every game I played if it had cheats I used them but now I never use cheats ever. I just like my games to be as hard as possible now days. I get annoyed when I can beat a game without difficulty. But I have nothing against people who use cheats, Games are meant to be fun so whatever makes people enjoy the game is fine by me.

Depends on the game and what you consider cheating.

If the game doesn't have anything special to collect, then I'll only tend to complete it once, then leave it for a long time. If there was something interesting, I may cheat to a certain level and mess about, or mess about if the cheats are fun (eg. spawn lots of enemies, go notarget to watch stuff, noclip around to see things).
If there's items to collect or achievements, I tend to attempt them the first time, so I'm likely to use a guide to find the ones I missed.

It all depends, which of course has already been said. Back in the day of NES, SNES, and N64, I use to cheat a lot if I got frustrated with a game and just couldn't beat it. It would usually take a couple or more weeks of playing before I did though. I had a Game-Genie for my SNES. Though I only remember using it on a Looney Tunes game "Death Vally Rally" I think it was called, it was a Roadrunner game that the difficultly level after a few levels went from 2 to a 10 and broke the ten scale on the last level. I always played it with infinite lives, though even then the game aggravated me.

Now a days, the only thing I do is if I play a game through and I can't find all the hidden items after a month of play, I look them up, get them and move onto a new game. I don't consider that cheating, I consider it making up for not being a genius with a 180 IQ or a person who luckily stumbles onto things.

These days, 100% is almost an impossible challenge, unless a person is playing a crappy movie game. I had an ex-friend that use to do that, rent all movie games and get bunches of 100%s to boost his gamerscore.

And what does that show about him: He wastes valuable hours of his life to inflate his score, but in the end the score will mean nothing because it's built on a pile of easy bull-crap games.

It's also hard to get 100% when games keep changing while a person plays them. Example: I had one more achievement to get on Halo Reach: Get the rank of Lt.Colonel and buy something in the armory that requires it. I was only about a weeks worth of gameplay away from getting that and the 100%, when the new Reach Map Pack came out and added 7 new achievements. Curse you Bungie, I thought I was going to get my second 100% game and then you ripped it out of my hand, ran off, and are now taunting me with a couple achievements to which I know I will never be able to get unless I become a person with no life that only plays Halo.

More depends on the game... Grand Theft Auto games (well, haven't tried 4 yet, but the rest) aren't fun without cheats. Same with the Sims (or the original at least). Other games I never cheat at...

I never use cheats unless it is a game like Saints Row so it makes fucking about more fun:)
