Younger-than-young. Age two.
Yeah, got the N64 when I was 2 or 3, because my older brother got it when he was 5 (2 year difference, but his birthday is first). Were it not for him getting pajama sam/other educational games, I probably would have started gaming a bit later than you.

What was your first system?

Somewhere between age 10 and 12, when I got my first GBA and played Pokemon Gold for the first time. Before that, while I did technically have a couple of systems in the forms of the NES and Sega Genesis, I never really played them because the games didn't look all that interesting to me. Pokemon was the game that really made me want to take up gaming as a hobby.

Well, I started at a young age, though I had to chose other to be more accurate? Why? Because the first recorded instance of me playing one the computer was at approximately 18 months old. Whether it was just dicking around and moving files for shits and giggles (very literally because again, I was less than 2), or actually playing some of those educational games or kid-focused point and click adventure games like Pajama Sam, I dont know. All I know is my love for time spent on computers started before I could fluently speak english, or walk consistently well. Pretty sure I was still small enough that I had to stand on the computer chair and hold myself up with my arms on the desk at that age.

Good times. Thank god my mother thought it a good idea to take down a journal of my brothers and I's childhoods, otherwise I wouldn't have known it was so early in my life.
My father was a gamer, so it was PC. The Atari game Tempest, to be precise. He didn't give me kiddy games either - I was playing playing Quake, Unreal, Mechwarrior, Doom, and Wolfenstein before I could even spell my name.
Yeah, my parents weren't gamers so I didn't get into more serious games like Red Alert (one of my favorite RTS's of all time) until I was 5 or 6. Had to progress on my own and I had to know how to read since my parents' couldn't teach me controls and the like (which makes RTS games MUCH more difficult).

I started playing games when I was about 4 or 5 I think. Playstation 1 and a Gameboy colour were my first devices. Used to be in love with Crash Bandicoot, Rayman and one of the Ridge Racer games.

EDIT: Just remembered. Before I had my Playstation I had a Sega Master System II. That was amazing. Had Sonic preloaded, so if you started the console without a cartridge it would play Sonic. Never got my hands on a Megadrive, which is upsetting.

It started for me in 85 on my father's intellivision. I was 3 years old and I loved that game, finally in 89 we got a Nintendo and that sealed the deal for me. I was destined to be a gamer. Unfortunately my parents had divorced by this point and my mother awarded custody. She didn't think video games were a healthy habit so I had to buy all of my own games and equipment. So for the next 8 years I only had 1-4 games on any console I owned. I would save most of my money to buy consoles as they released. Then when I was 16 I fell into gamer heaven. I actually lost my first job due to video games, then I realised I needed to moderate myself.

Here I am almost 30 years later and I now work in the industry. My mom had to eat crow when I got the job, it was one of the better moments in my life. Showing her that video games aren't all bad. Now she actually encourages the youth club she has to play educational video games (and encourages me to break out and make my own company).

For me it was the Sega Megadrive. I'd seen my parents playing commodore 64 and Atari's but it wasn't until I played a friend's Megadrive and it's glorious 16bits that I realised that gaming was one of the coolest things on Earth. So much so that I even have a Megadrive + Sonic combo tattoo :]

I started on the original Nintendo system, as well as a Sega Genesis. Anyone remember Dynamite Headdy? Still one of the most bizarre games I've ever seen, and a heck of a lot of fun. My brother's friend also introduced me to a cheat at Duck Hunt. If you drew a small black square on a sheet of white paper and taped it to the wall, you could just point your gun at that and click repeatedly, and you'll hit every duck, every time. It was hilarious.
