Poll: Choosing Names

I was just wondering...

In games where you can choose your name, do you always choose the same one or change it for each game?

Personally, I always use the same name, Dante (as in the author.) I don't know why, I just like the name

I don't have a consistent name choice. I'll go with some variation on "Samuel Taylor Coleridge" if I'm stumped, followed by attacking any birds in the game with great zeal, but I'll usually just go with what seems most suitable at the time.

My reaction to the art style of Vindictus was to dub my Vann "Girliman".

I've mostly used my handle since... 2005ish I think. I made it up when I got UT2004 and I was fairly late to the party so... 2005 sounds about right. I do use my real first name too, but only occasionally

I quite enjoy my name, so I typically use it in all of my playthroughs with the one exception of Legend of Zelda games. Call me boring, but I've always used Link since I found out that that was indeed his name.

It depends. Sometimes I'll use my name, sometimes I'll use a "pun" name - for example, in Dragon Age 2, I called my character "Toma" so he would be Toma Hawke, and others, like Legend Of Zelda, I feel it's wrong to change the established name.

I like to mix things up a lot, but I always end up going back to Randall (male chars) and Layla (female chars).

I usually spend at least 20 minutes to conjure up a new name if I feel like using a new one, or just use one I used before for a similar character. And it's never, ever my name or even similar to it.

That is, if there's no canon by-name reference to the character in question. So in TES, yes, I'll name my character. In Chrono Trigger, no, I won't.

Actually, names are something I'm quite nit-picky about. Especially in MMO's. Seriously, people can be so unoriginal sometimes. Every WoW realm had about thirty-seven death knights named Arthas with different combinations of umlauts, accents or double vowels.

In RPGs or SRPGs where I can name my characters, including myself, I tend to give my characters fun names. I tend to name them based on some of their attributes and characteristics (i.e. Ice Mage is named Shiva, Swordwoman is named Xena, Dragon is named Flare Beat, etc.). If I choose to name my main character after myself, I would instead give it one of my nicknames.

The only consistency I have concerning naming schemes is that they generally reflect what I'm reading, listening to, films I've seen....basically I rip-off bits of pop-culture I enjoyed. Though I do sometimes fall back onto the same ones....

Mostly, I name everything Steve. That's not even my name. My name is a strange spelling of a not unpopular name. I just like the name Steve. If something's already named Steve, I go with The Duke. Which doesn't come from what you'd think it does.

I generally use one of a list of character names I like.

None of them my name. My name is boring as hell.

I use my full first name, Sebastian (shortened to Seb) or put a random suffix on my last name.

Ill usually go with something dirty to appease my inner 5 year old. That or Matthew (My name)

My name on here, is the name that I have in any of the games I play... if you see anyone else named DoomyMcDoom, that isn't me, they're all cheap imposters, I've been using this name for years, and it's reserved by me in almost every MMO, and aside from like 3 places where it's not definately not me, like skype, or deviantart.com, or like xbox/windows live, as far as google has told me anyhow... oh and someone on youtube has some COD vids where they have my name, but that's not me...

I am Rookie on most of my games, if the name is taken I will place my house number in front.

I always use Final First as my name with the exception of the few times it's already in use or when I'm playing an RPG like Skyrim.

I always come up with different names.
Not only that, but I load up Google Translate, or similar, to come up with names that mean something.
