I wonder which circle the moron who made up this shit in the first place would go... Prolly #6, but since dilluting an imaginary sand peoples god into the religions of their conquered peoples really doesn't change much but make it sound more silly and bring down the base material of both sets of religions. Making this a poll was silly, but not as silly as the absurd name of the topic.
So, I GUESS you want to relate death, the devil and evil. Some sort of imaginary hell dreamed up by the fanatics of the middle age catholic church... Yeah, I'm gonna listen to some guy who thinks that LIVING is an act of evil and he must constantly scourge himself to ensure that the SUFFERING he endures will earn him a place in heaven. These people actually thought that if you drilled down deep enough in the earth you would find a physical location of hell, and if you built a tall enough tower it would reach god and heaven. Guess what? Both of those are false. There is no hell. Verdict has yet to see if there is a heaven on another planet (crazy scientologists may be onto something).
Might as well pick apart your list. Limbo was an invention of the catholic church to induce fear into the populace who were on the bench. While purgatory was an invention to make money, limbo was made to enhance the fear culture they created. Gluttony isn't a sin, it's a bad habit that could lead to cavities, heart problems and poor endurance. Calling gluttony a sin is like calling smoking a sin, it's not, and it makes you sound like a moron when you equate eating excessively with killing people and devouring their flesh. Lust? Really? Do you really think the same god who said 'be fruitful and multiply' would make the act a sin? Another silly throwback to a religion that insists that priests, monks and nuns remain chaste and marriage is the only way sex would happen. Then again, back in those days girls were married at the age of 13, so just as their sexual prime started they already had a partner chosen for them. In modern times when people wait until they are past their youthful pining years to get married we see that waiting until you are 27 and find the right person to have sex is just plain silly. Also, insisting that your clergy can't have sex just makes them more likely to molest little boys. Greed is ambition. Living without ambition is waiting to die. Bottling up your anger leads to frustration. Everyone gets angry. There is a difference between being angry and being an ass, but one can definately lead to the other. Nothing sinful about being honest with your feelings. Heresy is just plain silly. Do you really trust these guys who tell you that everything the church says is fact and if you argue with anything they say you are wrong and should be put to death for it? It's just plain silly. Heresy can't exist because they are more full of it than anybody else. Saying that anyone who disagrees with you is wrong is absurd even if you ARE god. Meh, I'll give you violence as a sin. You harm somebody, even if they ARE bad people, and that's something that is wrong. Of course we should just roll over and die if somebody comes along and tries to harm US! Fraud? Seriously? Did you just put LYING on a lower level of hell than KILLING? What's WRONG with you? Is your moral compass pointing down or something? Then let's put TREACHERY on the list. Fraud and treachery... ah, so deceit deserves two levels of hell, depending on how well you know the recepiant.
Well, that list is kinda silly. I think I could make a better one:
1. Chastity: let's just say that if you don't use what you got, you go to hell. Under my rule, the priests that have sex with little boys would actually go to heaven while everyone else would burn (unless the violate one of the OTHER sins). Anybody who dies under the age of 20 doesn't have to worry about this, and as long as you TRY to get some, you will be okay. Giving up is no excuse.
2. Habitual Lying: this category is pretty open to interpretation. This is pretty much people who live by deceiving others on a daily basis, break vows or take vows they have no intention on keeping, stuff like that. Politicians and lawyers will hate this one, and actors might fear it because that's what they do, but the intent of the lie counts for all it's weight. No harm, no foul!
3. Rape: Non-consentual sex is bad, m'kay? Seriously, the fact that most organized religions don't recognize rape as a sin is REALLY bad. Then again, many don't even recognize women as people, so it's not much of a surprise.
4. Abuse: Physically or mentally harming somebody for your own enjoyment of their pain is wrong.
5. Murder: Ending somebodies life, even in your own defense eats away at your soul and makes you less of a person. Definately a top sin here.
Meh, I could probably throw in a couple more 'fluff' sins and fill out my religion some more. The simple fact is that people are NOT wretched sacks of shit like the early church wanted to make us believe we were. Plenty of good people out there making the world a better place day by day. A few bad apples will want to ruin everyones day, but you gotta focus on the positive, and not on the negative.
The only death that really matters is the heat death of the universe. Until then we will persist.
