Howdy y'all! Now, I know this thread has prooobably already been done, and I know everyone will almost certainly say "get it", but I'm still a tad reluctant for a certain reason...

That reason being is my rather spotty relationship with the Civilization series... You see, as an avid console gamer, my first experience with Civ was Civ: Revolution. Now, I understand that this is a simplified version of the PC edition, but I really enjoyed it. Following on upon my enjoyment with Civ Rev, I decided I'd give a hand on Civ IV on my humble little MacBook Pro...

...And was thoroughly disappointed. I found myself really rather bored, frankly - it may have been the presentation of the game, but I kinda felt disassociated with what was going on on the screen... I dunno, I just didn't enjoy the experience much at all :S

Now, considering this, would you advise I get Civilization V? I'd just like to point out I don't really mind complicated games (I thoroughly enjoy Rome: Total War, which has quite a lot of complicated strategy when on the battlefield, with flanking, micro-management, etc), so that wasn't really what I didn't enjoy about Civ IV. Still, I'm kinda unsure whether I'd have the same problems with Civ V as I did with IV. From gameplay screens and whatnot, it looks like a blast to play, but... I dunno. What do you lot think? Will I be pleasantly surprised as with Civilization: Revolution, or will I be unpleasantly surprised ala Civlization IV?

TL;DR (I don't actually know what that stands for... XD): I enjoyed Civlization Revolution but was disappointed by Civilization IV. Should I get Civ V?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Also, since I'm the 'Resident Juggler', here's a random juggling video! (and yes, diabolo DOES count as juggling)

If you didn't like IV you probably wouldn't care much for V. I'd say pass it up. The only really major difference is city-states and you can't stack units on the same tile now, making combat more tactical.

The AI are still colossal dicks. and it looks new and shiny. And no Leonard Nimoy.

D: SO if civ 4 didn't do it. 5 won't either.

I would get it. I hear that a lot of the interface and some gameplay concepts came from ideas they used with Civ Revolution, so it should be more suitable to your taste.

Civ Rev was a surprisingly good game (I have it on my DS), but if you didn't like Civ4, you're not gonna like Civ5. Both games are very indicative of what Civilization's been on the PC since Sid Meier's original. Revolution was much more focused (at least I thought so) on exploration and combat since so many of the "Civ elements" (upkeep, management, resource shepherding) were simplified or taken out (or, if I'm being less charitable, "dumbed down for consoles")---you could just build an army, kill people, and break stuff.
