Which do you prefer to play with or in most often and why? A public server or playing with your clan?

Personally, I love scrims, but I'll play on a public server if I can't get one.

Public, I've never been dedicated enough to stick to a clan, I know I'll get bored of the game and move on.

Mostly clan, but our clan is probably the most laid back one EVER.

People in Clans get too serious and tend to ruin the game by just taking the fun out a replacing it with pure competition.

I play with clans so I have people to play with. Not serious clans though.
Thats fucking retarded, like when you have people screaming in your ear that you missed that easy snipe, or you should have dropped reavers.

Depends on the clan

Getting 8 friends, changing your names to "Bacon" and then raping some poor defenseless Gmod Roleplay server is fun.

I prefer public to clan though, I'm not into "serious business" clan matches and having to be at certain places at certain times which is why I'm in Team Zombie. Then again, it's a Garry's mod clan so it's really just a case of "Oi you, come play with me I wanna minge some server/build a tank of some kind" and well, I'm the clan leader so anything I say gets done usually.

I played in a "clan". MOre like a bunch of people who are easy to get on with and like to talk shit when playing. Ive played with proper clans who get pissy because you are not "manning your spot". It makes sense to have someone watch the left flank but its not very exciting when no one is coming from that direction. Games are meant to be fun.

Unless clan is something for a specific game, then public. Joining a group within a game makes me nervous, for some reason.

Clan games are better generally but...

On my account it's the fact that I screw up my PC too often, or just can't dedicate the time to attend ALL the clan training sessions (if there isn't a rigorous training schedule generally the clan isn't great).

Still on the whole I win most public ggs on CSS and do well in public COD4 games no matter what game type.

Is it common to absolutely never get invited to clans but to have to look for them yourself even when winning (or being top of the leaderboard) 10 games in a row?

Public because I like to play as and when I want, not when someone else wants me to. Also I find that I'll often get bored of a game and start playing something else so I like to enjoy the freedom of playing public.

Depends on the game and game mode. When I first started playing Unreal Tournament 2004 online, I had no idea what a clan was actually. I met up with a bunch of people who had this strange tag in front of their names, they were all nice so I played a lot with them in public games. After a while they asked me to join them, which I did because they were pretty cool. Now, about four years and four lan party's later, I still hang out with them and I consider them very good friends.

Mind you, we're not a very large group. That's why we didn't play too much competitively. But we have participated in some cups and leagues, which was a very nice experience really. It's very different from publics because you work more as a team, and the difficulty is also much higher. Still, having to show up each weak at a certain time to play for two hours was a bit of a drag. Fortunately we were too lazy to train or else it would have been far worse.

Now in Left 4 Dead, I am the only one of my clan who plays it, so naturally I play in publics. That's okay in most games, generally people are nice, and it is somehow very satisfying to get a gold medal on a hard map of survival with complete strangers. But for example in the Versus mode of that game, there are usually tons of leavers. Right when you get to play as infected, suddenly some guys don't want to play as survivors and you get to fight with bots, or not at all, which is a major drag.

I have accumulated some friends in that game. Friends, as in people who I played with and were especially nice, regardless of skill or the lack there off. And it is much more pleasant to play with those people, since you know there aren't any rage quitters or flamers or racists or other annoying folk. I won't say we form a clan, but you can't call it a public game too.

So my vote goes to Clan methinks. Overall it brings a far better experience. However publics are an essential stepping stone to getting that far. So if there would be a both option, that would get my vote.
