They are both correct and they could both be used no matter where you are. I personally find myself switching off between the two from time to time.

Americans had to make some cutbacks during the economic crisis. Namely cutting back on Us and replacing certain Ss with much cheaper Zs.

I'm English, so colour.

As a few others have said, it was an American attempt at simplifying the English language *resists temptation to have a cheap dig at the Americans* :p

I don't think it's a huge deal though, if I ever moved to America I'd spell it color because I'd look silly if I didn't. You adapt to the culture around you.

I'm surprised by the results of the poll, both by the amount of people who spell it colour, and the amount of people who spell it 'Charizard' :p

A little FYI, Chrome is picking up the American spelling of colour as wrong, I guess it depends which dictionary your browser is using.

It's not a subjective question. Some countries spell it one way, others spell it...well, the other way. People are going to vote based on where they're from, nothing else. It's not a question of opinion or preference.

I spell it like colour, because.......well, that's how you spell it.

Color is inferior and incorrect.

How about just asking "Are you from USA or UK/Canada/Australia?".

And besides, there are plenty other words that employ the same sort of differences in different English dialects.
Anyway, I've always tried to pursue using British English, so I type "colour". I think it's odd without the 'U'.

Though my uncle (whenever he speaks English) likes to say Charizard.

Colour, I don?t think it really makes much deferens but I will say the u isn?t just a useless letter. It really just depends on how you pronounce it. As far as I can tell with a lot of English ascents, you do hear the u.
