endless hate here.... I hate them screaming at you. WHY DO THE COMMERCIALS HAVE TO BE 150% LOUDER THAN THE TV SHOW YOU ARE WATCHIN???????

I like TV commercials because they make TV-watching cheap. Now if only they weren't so stupid...

If it's an image that's well placed and isn't overly gaudy, it's just fine. Those animated ads that are loud, annoying, flash, and/or overlay the entire page until you close them... hell no; GTFO.

Depends for me. In the movie theaters i loath commercials. Not the trailers mind you, but the commercials.

On TV, when i actually watch TV on TV i don't mind them at all, and occasionally love the commercials. Last month saw a commercial for the Mediocrity car, and i missed the next 2 commercials still laughing from it. Banner ads i don't mind, and some i like, so long as they don't have sound.

Commercials i really enjoyed i try to hunt down and favorite on youtube. Most are beer ads, or i've seen 2 car ones i liked.. one i mentioned, the other honda's Cog commercial. The Rube Goldburg machine one. Epic.

I hate what advertising has become in the information age, and I firmly believe that it should be universally (and heavily) taxed.
...but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the funny ones.

That is why I hate advertisements.

TV commercials also give you a break from the show, which can sometimes be necessary.

Tivos are so common these days that this purpose isn't all that important. I'm a poor SOB and I have one.

Imagine being forced to pay for Youtube or the Escapist.

I'd simply go somewhere else. A paid model would cripple Youtube. The whole reason it's as popular as it is is because it's free.

Imagine having to pay for every individual TV show you watch.

So that monthly bill for TV service just sends your money into the ether?

No. It helps cover the network's costs, which include acquiring programming.

TiVo only works in north america, or so I think. We don't have them here at least.
My whole point was that no site would be free anymore, what payes for 99.999% of the internet is commercials.
Your TV bill usually just gives money to the cable or sattelite company, not to the networks. They get all their money from advertisements. Without commercials all shows would be pay per view. At least that's the way I understand it.

Love the clever ones, hate the stupid ones and I understand that Ads are crucial to the survival of the media.
