I guess the line comes with mental instability, disability, immaturity and such, at which point it doesn't really count as consent. Naturally, anyone who wants to commit cannibalism/be cannibalised is mentally unstable. The problem there is people will try to push what constitutes mental instability. It'd go from murder/suicide to weird ass fetishes through to anything that isn't heterosexual sex in the missionary position with the lights off for the purpose of procreation.

All the debate behind euthanasia and you chose vorephilia as your example for mutual consent?

Possible barriers I foresee:

1. If mutual consent between two parties affect a third one.

2. If both parties are of a proper decision making age and are both properly informed of the facts and repercussions surrounding whatever they're consenting to.

3. If one or more parties are consenting under duress.

4. If one or more parties are afflicted by a mental illness that hampers their ability to properly make rational, informed decisions, etc.

Basically, anything that applies to mutually binding contracts.

I would agree that 'what two consenting adults do in private' is no-one else's business, on the condition it doesn't have a lasting effect on anyone else.

A man being eaten alive definitely has an effect on anyone that cares about him, making it their business. It is the law's job in this case to protect them from his hedonism.
Pretty much this^ What else needs to be said?

Here's a grey answer to a black/white poll (I said yes.) Murder and the extreme taboos; incest, cannibalism (in most areas of the world), and full physical torture have a tendency to spread beyond the realms of the private sphere and into the community. Then you are affecting other people and privacy is no longer upheld.

If you want to swing naked from the chandelier and dripping with chocolate, knock yourself out. *Funny side note: that image comes courtesy of the former Catholic bishop of my diocese.*
