I don't see why not. If you not buying a console for its exclusive titles then why are you buying it?
To me it has to be more than "one" game. I bought XBOX over PS3 because of Mass Effect, and most of its XBLA titles.
If I can afford both one day maybe I will get a ps3 as well.
Besides there will never be one game that EVERYONE just agrees is the game to own and makes people buy a console.
Besides I'm assuming that game already exists, and it's Starcraft 2, and the console is a PC.
There are differences in consoles beyond their exclusive or killer app titles. I've got both a PS3 and a 360 at home, and if it's an option, I always play it on the 360 instead for a few reasons.
1) I like the controller better. This is of course HUGELY personal and will vary.
2) Xbox Live is just a better online service, and I know far more people on it then I do on PSN. So playing Borderlands on the PS3 was a very lonely experience, compared to the network I have on the 360.
3) Development cycles. Developing games for the PS3 has proven more difficult than for the 360, which tends to lead to longer times, delays, etc. Examples are Fallout 3, Dragon Age, all games that got pushed back compared to the 360 counterpart. For the same price in the game, it's an inconvenience I'd rather not deal with.
OP: I won't even say one game was killer for me, it was Bioware in general. Knights of the Old Republic prompted me to get an Xbox, Mass Effect 1 and 2 being developed for the 360 made me know I wanted to stick with it. Call me a fanboy if you will, but they're my favorite games and I go where they go.
