I try to keep my posts error free, but when/if I do make a mistake, I would like it to be pointed out. Anything that helps me improve my typing/English is fine by me. Still, that's all providing that you aren't too strict. Life isn't an English exam, after all.

One thing that really annoys me is people putting then instead of than. If I see it in a post I have a lot of difficulty taking the person seriously.
Haha, I actually do that sometimes. I hate it when I catch myself, but every now and then I just slip up and do it wrong. I've got the same problem with "its" and "it's". I know how to do it right, but sometimes I still do it wrong. Blame it on me not being a native English-speaker, but if you ever catch me doing it please don't hesitate to correct me.

I am never wrong, and rarely spell something incorrectly, so those people who have tried to "correct" my opinions aren't just annoying, they're also wrong....which means I either have to correct them or ignore them....which really is....quite tiresome...*sigh*

I don't like being wrong, but then I don't like being ignorant of the facts either. So I'd begrudgingly accept a correction, but would rather that than a straight "You are a moron."

I do correct people but I'm not an ass about it because I use humor or sarcasm to do it and it's mainly something I do with my friends which through time has made me somewhat of the stereotypical Asian in our group. I don't mind it at all though because I'm helping those who've helped me.

I don't care who you are back in the world, you correct me one more time and I'll bleed ya, real quiet. Leave ya here. Got that?

I jest, I was watching Predator last night, classic film.

Feel free to correct my poor spelling, grammar, and voice your opinion about my opinion, that's what life is about right?

If I fuck up, I'd like to know about it so that I can fix it and not do it again.

Be polite, of course.

I never quote people for errors and never get quoted for errors because I have Google Chrome and the edit button so errors only stay for a few seconds.

I hate getting corrected and rarely get corrected.

I can't stand the people who quote someone, change the post, and then just leave it as "Fixed".

Even though I don't recall it happening to me, it just blows my mind how impolite and arrogant that is. Instead of gently guiding the person in the right direction, or even PMing the person to help them out, its just straight off the bat "lol, ur an idiot, I fixed ur post for u".

I'm aware that this is not always the case for the people who do "fix" posts, but that's just the way it reads to me.

Quite regularly, I've seen people react in a very hostile manner to having their posts corrected. Whether it's simple spelling or grammar mistakes or gross factual errors, some people seem to hate being corrected. I'm sure we've all seen posts such as "Who cars if my typin isnt perfekt dis r the internetz not gramer skool only fagets caer abut spellign", or have seen people fly off the handle because someone pointed out a fallacy in their reasoning.

Some seem to think that correcting someone is a sign of arrogance or elitism. While I can see how it sometimes comes across as such, that's more a matter of how you're being corrected than the correcting itself. If someone is all like "You fail at life because you made a typo! Go back to preschool, loser!" yeah, I'd be annoyed too. But most 'grammar Nazis' aren't really that extreme, and just don't like seeing other people make mistakes.

Because of the way people seem to be annoyed by such corrections, I don't really do it very often. I see a lot of people making mistakes in spelling and grammar and misusing words, but often I decide to not point out their mistakes because they're trivial and not worth annoying someone over, but it's an urge I have to suppress because seeing some mistakes pop up again and again is as annoying to me as the corrections are to others. I realise that most of the time the person making the mistake is not to blame. After all, to err is human. But having your mistake pointed out to you might help you prevent making the same mistake in the future.

Personally, I don't mind if people correct me. Nine out of ten times my mistakes are born of typos or ignorance. The first can happen to anyone and is no big deal to correct. In case of the latter, being corrected is an effective way to remedy that ignorance, so I take it as an opportunity to learn something new.

I was wondering how the average Escapist feels about this.

Spelling is just idea frosting, and grammar is just the shape of the cake.

It's the flavor that's important to me.

As long as the corrector puts it in a nice way it is ok. For example I know that I put commas in the wrong spots just because I feel that they should pause there.

Its just the way that you go about it that bothers me. Some people can be cool about it while others are complete douches

I much prefer to have people correct me, because, while I posses a great deal of facts in my brain, my bubbling personality and bouncing lifestyle has a tendency to cause the contents to shift around a bit and I often remember certain details wrong. People correcting me is a way of ensuring that the information gets delivered properly.
Also, on occasion I'm just flat-out wrong and being corrected means I'm not wrong anymore.

I don't mind if someone corrects me as long as I learn from it, also if they were rude about it then I tell them to fuck off.

I like it when people correct me when I'm wrong, but it has to be in a respectful way. If they're just being jerks about it then I find it to be annoying.

I hate being wrong, so I'll gladly accept a correction. I also correct others, but they usually get peeved and don't take what I've told them so they'll stop making the addressed mistake. -_-"
