I would only cosplay if it's Sun Wukong from the Journey to the West 1996. Other than that... No.

I am planning on cosplaying in the near future, having observed friends doing it on a recent trip to Canada and it looked like fun.

One thing that appeals to me about cosplaying is that my female friends dressed up as Assasin Creed characters and no one made a big deal (they won the contest in the end).

I like the idea of female entrants not expected to be female characters and male entrants not always being male characters. You can dress as whoever the hell you want and you're all judged on equal footing. No one is confined by gender.

I have done so occasionally. It's fun when you get a group of friends, however there are some people who just fail entirely or take it too seriously...

You could cosplay as Vivi from FF IX :3

There haven't been many conventions near me untill recently, but I like to cosplay =) Have done with a group of friends for halloween for a few years in the past. It can be good fun once you get past people staring at you like a freak xD
Also, trying to make my own gives me something to do when I'm bored.

I like the idea of cosplay, but I'd only go as something easy to pull off and defendable if called an idiot, like the sniper from tf2. But if I managed to get a suit of T-51b power armour, then I wouldn't cosplay in that either; it'd just become part of my usual outfits and I doubt that'd be cosplaying, just more halloween every other day.

Did it once, just a few weeks ago for my local convention. :p Went as a team rocket grunt.

And it was FUN. Will most probably be doing it again.

Lol.

In any case, I don't cosplay. I would want to, but it sounds like a bit of work, and there are no conventions nearby.

I don't understand cosplay, I have no desire to cosplay, but I have nothing against those who do cosplay. If they have fun doing it, and if it's their way of socializing, then go for it! I'm not bothered by cosplayers in the slightest. I will say however that I would like to see more original cosplay. Everytime there's a covention, you'll see the same old character costumes: Link, Dante, Snake, Master Chief, ect. What about really obscure characters? Like NPCs or Items or hell, even effects!

I know, I know, some people do dress up as bit characters. I'd like to see more. Thousands of people dress up as link, but few dress up as that most noble of video-game objects, the Tetris Long Block. Or the Red Shell.

If I had the craftsmanship to make a suit of T-51b Power Armour and a Laser Rifle then I would probably just for Halloween if that counts.
If I had the craftsmanship to make a suit of T-51b power armour and laser rifle, I wouldn't wear anything else.

OP: No, I've never felt any desire to cosplay, but the good costumes do interest me slightly. Never had an inclination to do it myself though.

As I have posted in a cosplay thread a while back- I'm working on making my first cosplay right now.

Sheena Fujibayashi from Tales of Symphonia.

It will be awesome.
That does sound awesome! I've been looking for Sheena cosplay or artwork or anything really, Sheena was one of my favorite characters from Tales of Symphonia! There needs to be more stuff of her!

You might make a good Mario then. He's pretty short, kinda tubby, not really pasty but he's pretty white. You just need to grow a mustache.

I myself have never really cosplayed per-se. The closest I've come to cosplaying was when I dressed up for Mario on Halloween, I actually managed to win a costume contest at my school for that costume too, so that was pretty cool. The prize was pretty lame though.
I doubt I ever really would do cosplay, because it seems like to much work, and I bet it would feel silly but if I ever were to ever cosplay, I would like to be Zero from either Megaman Zero or Megaman X, because Zero is awesome.

I love to cosplay even without an event going on. Although I was majorly disappointed that I missed Tekko this past year cuz I was going to go as Honey-chan from Ouran High School Host Club. I even found a blue suit to wear and I had Bun Bun :(
