I love the huge screen for epic action movies. Comedies/Scary movies I could care less where I watch them.

I absolutely hate movie theaters in Dubai. The audio quality is shit, and even worse, THEY CENSOR THE FUCKING MOVIE AND DEMAND THAT YOU MUST BE OLD ENOUGH TO WATCH IT!

They don't deserve a fucking penny from me, and trust me, as long as I have an internet connection, and a few movie streaming sites, Movie Theaters are fucking pointless.

What us people who have projector's and rent movies?
i just chose i continue going to movie theatre because my screen is fairly big
I wouldn't download cos i couldnt bare watching a 2 hour movie on a small screen compared to nice big theatre screen.

Also wouldnt there be big issues with scams with the whole download thing?

Aside from the theater vs download thing itself, think about those of us without credit cards. I'm 14 and I often save up some allowance to go to the theater once a month or so. I can do this for most things. However, to buy anything off the webernetz, I have to ask my parents to pay for it and then I pay them back. A right pain in the ass, I'm sure you'll agree. So any system for downloading (and paying for) movies online would be completely impractical for me, and for anyone else without a credit card.

There will always be a market for this sort of thing, just like getting a shave at the barbers.

I prefer downloading them. I like to watch my movies on my own, not with 300 people I don't know. I hate crowded areas.

Though the popcorn is always a plus.

And there's no way on my computer for me to HEAR the movie, so...

People here seem to think that an 87 foot screen is better than a small computer screen. No, I am not trying to sound like a retard. I see their logic, I simply just don't share their opinion. Small screen allows a little more privacy. And I value my privacy highly.

Sounds like it's time for you to switch to a decent ISP. I didn't know some of them still have usage limits.

My plan with Optus gives us a 5gig usage limit which I go over every month and it pisses me off.

Does pirated music make concerts obsolete? The atmosphere and experience of a theatre is vastly different to that of a home-movie viewing. It is a more social activity to leave the house for a movie and can provide a medium for all sorts of other things*.

Its the experience you go for though. if I just really want to see a movie, I'll rent it or download it.

If I want to go out with some friends and feel the atmosphere for a new big film then I'll go see it while slurping Fanta and scoffing haribo until I feel sick, also if the film turns out to suck you can throw things at people in the dark. Endless entertainment there.

I'd have to agree with BudZer, even though we CAN watvh movies at home it's better at a theater because it can house more people and there's the whole social interraction part we all love. Plus, the popcorn there is just really special.
There are people who want social interaction in a movie? Yet we're pissed when people talk? hypocrisy.

Also, If you download something you could watch it all you want, movie tickets cost you the same amount per viewing, so download.

If I was going to see, say, a movie in which there are lots of big explosions, or monsters or shit that would look really cool really big, then I'm going to the theatre (i.e. I go to the theatre for the spectacle). That's something a download can't provide. But if I'm going to watch a movie about like... a dude... having... problems or something, I'm going to watch it wherever I damn well want.
Please note: I actually do watch movies that aren't about the spectacle, its just a lot harder to describe that half of the film industry.

I don't like downloaders. I happen to love the majestic movie theatre. For me there is nothing more magical then the silver screen.
Ditto. The theatre is all about the ambience and experience. I'm not really a movie person but I love going to movie theatres, the popcorn, the volume, the sheer size of the screen, the crowd responses*...yes, the theatre will live on.

*Went to see 300 with a few friends of mine and there were maybe 20 other people in the theatre, we were the only people laughing at any point in the movie. Love it when that happens, it's like you've got the place to yourself.
