Battlefield 3 was my first introduction to the series, and I must say I was distinctly unimpressed. But if you're a fan of the franchise then I would get it for PC (I have it for 360, strangely). The SP campaign is only 5 hours long start to finish and so the only mileage in the game is in online MP, and when comparing the two versions that way PC is clearly the winner - the maps are much bigger than the cut down ones used for the console release, and lobby sizes are up from 16 to 48 (I think). So no contest, really.

Although you will have to put up with Origin.

And if I were you I'd save my money anyway.

Well BF3 looks stunning when played on max graphics on pc. So that and increased player capacity is what you would be waiting for. If your computer cant run it at that level then you lose one of the main perks. Also getting the pc version means you cant play with your friends on xbox. And let me remind you that battlefield is a team game . I find battlefield a ton of fun with good friends. Hope this helps :)

Between the two, the PC version is unmistakably better imo. Mouse>controller and maps are bigger.

That said, you say your friends are using Xbox, do you have anyone you can play with on the PC? Battlefield gets a lot better when you play it with friends, so if you have mates you can play with on Xbox and none on the PC, get it for Xbox.

All in all, 6-7 months until summer is a long time. By that time, you'll be able to find BF3 on sale for some 20$ or cheaper. So I'd say get it for Xbox now and if you're unhappy, you can always get it for PC later too.

In that case, it depends on whether you're willing to wait and whether you have stuff to play now. Personally, I don't see how you can even ask yourself "do I buy this now or in 7 months" but could just be me. As I said, buy it for Xbox now and you can always buy it for PC later, just grab it on sale.
