Well for me really it depends on what I'm playing. When I was playing WoW I would only play Priests and Mages as females because it just seemed like the right then. May seem sexist but I think spell chuckers should be female.

I'm sensing this thread has been done before too...

I don't play onliners, but sometime's i'll play as a girl. Men's behinds don't really do it for me

My characters tend to be 50% either gender, not counting those where you can't choose gender or where gender is more than an aesthetic difference.

Why? Because I think their model best matches the feel I'm going for, or just plain looks better.

Yes for reasons already mentioned. I also use to be apart of a text based roleplaying forum and played as a female for the entirety of the game (roughly one year)

I normally play male characters but if I don't like the model I play a female.

Well the only online games I used to play were MMORPGs. Most of the time I'd pick a girl, but if there were times where I chose to be a male character, it was solely for the sake of the nice looking sprite. If people asked me what gender I was, I'd say I was a girl.

I've played men, women, transvestites and bricks. It's all a matter of characterisation. If I can produce a good character under any gender I'd rather do something a bit off-the-wall. More fun that way.

Well if you want to seee more action in Mass Effect then you have to play as a female, but I stood by my manliness and played as a male.

I've played Star Wars Galaxies as a female Ithorian and once a female Wookiee. Somehow playing as something directly humanoid is popular for cross-gender playing but when you play a female character without obvious/any breasts, people get SO confused.

I usually like oogling my madeup men, but if the male model is poor, womenfolk don't ruin the game for me.

It's mostly just meh.

My friend recently asked me what I would have thought of Halo if you played Cortana, a Spartan, who did all the talking, who had a strong-silent male computer assistant in her head.

While I don't think that would have worked as a whole, for some reason, I have always liked playing space games with female characters. No idea why. It's like, women belong in space or something?

I own Diablo 2. The Sorceress is female so I play a female character when I use my sorceress. Usually though, when given the option I always play a male character.

I always play as Zoey in Left 4 Dead for 2 reasons:

1: She has a soothing voice.

2: It saves the whole 'who has to be the girl' argument.
