I play a lot of multilayer shooters and i was just playing some L4D2 and talking to my mate, he asked if i was playing with console players. I had to explain to him that (IMO) was a stupid idea and the whole concept was filled with flaws. (after explaining that i wasn't, nor could, of course)

what do you guys thing about cross platform gaming (ignore the technical issues for now) for games such as L4D(and shooters in general)

EDIT: also how well do you think the communities would mix?

If they can pull it off well, I'd love to see it.

It'd be a good opportunity to prove once and for all that PC gamers are the master race! :p

eh depends purely on the game types, but for stuff like l4D sure why not, i'd love to play with some random people from both as teammates, it'd help be able to play with some of my friends who have pos computers that play on 360

PCs are cheap if you know what you're doing.
and i'd say a good 70% of people dont really know or dont care to spend the time learning, so yeah, it isn't cheap in majority of cases

Hence the reason apple, dell, compaq, and HP can get away with 75%-200% markups.

Of course, theres always the hilarious examples of people who buy monitor, case, disc drive, keyboard, mouse, then call tech support wondering why their computer doesn't work.
exactly. people dont know or care really, they just want their computer (which i used to be that way) and as long as it works they dont give a fuck they are spending 1100 on it instead of 500

Racing games would work, but I suppose that's pretty much the only genre you could do that with without crippling one side completely.

It can work, it just wont work in competitive games. FFXI wasn't a bad idea, but the game could have definately have been better (opinion statement). Phantasy Star U has some cross-platform last I heard (PC and PS2).

I agree that Shadowrun was really autoaimed on consoles.

Universe at war not only was hard to control on console, it sometimes went down to single digit FPS (on console).

It can happen, just not on FPS or RTS. More like MMOs and Co-op games.

It would be fun for a game like splinter cell were there are two completely different factions with different controls (for example I found it easier to control the Spy on a console than I did on a PC).

ALSO, I thought that Street Fighter IV was going to be cross-platform but it wasn't. I could REALLY REALLY see this work in fighting games.

Hmm... i could see it on fighting games, i don't play or like them myself so correct me if I'm wrong, but given the PCs customizable options for keys, wouldn't it be a bit favored towards the PC for combos etc, as you can swap the keys around to something more simple? or in easier locations for different combos?

Wouldn't work at least for fps games PC users would have too much aim advantage

what if they could tweak an auto aim system to balance it out?
Then the console owners, like me, would have an unfair advantage. And auto aim is way too helpful in so many occasions.

OT: I would love to play against the PC community in CoD but as has been said already, they will gain a slight advantage due to the mouse and keyboard controls. Seriously, I watched a PC gamer friend play CoD: MW and I was stunned at how quick his hands moved to react to other players.

It was like watching a deranged monkey on a coffee rush, it left me quite surprised.

As for how well the communities would mix, do you remember the nuke scene from CoD: MW?
Yeah, it'd be like that I reckon.
