Bah, anyway: No one should cry at movies in my opinion. If you do, then you need to get back in touch with reality because there are plenty of things to cry about in the world that happen on a daily basis. See: Africa.
The three most acceptable movies for crying are Click, Wall-E and Hancock. You can cry at other movies, but you may get some funny looks if you burst into tears halfway through Die hard or Water boy
I remember the review for that - 'Bring a whole box of tissues' - Damn, I misread that one. (I hid the far worse bonus bit.)
even the shower scenes didn't do it for me.
Really tho, I'm so easy to break when it comes to emotional scenes, I'm a big guy, but I blubber like a girl given not much of a push at all, heh.
Stuff like Shawshank Redemption, feels like I'm watching it from underwater by about halfway thru, I'm so soft.
Hell, I was biting my lip during the OPENING credits to Watchmen, because I'd been waiting so long, and the opening credits just felt so damned right.
I cry easy, but I tend to manage to sit there, shaking and leaking without actually letting any sound out at least, so I can be a total girl about it without annoying the whole cinema.
What a joke! Of course it's fine. Of course, if you do it really loudly and bother the audience, they have the right to get out their bazookas...
But yeah, there are a few endings recently that made me cry. What were they again? I know one of them was Toy Story 3 (great movie!). Oh right, the other one was Kirschblüten (Cherry Blossoms)! It's a German film that's incredibly touching and beautiful, I highly recommend it.

Just because bad shit happens in real life doesn't mean you can't cry about stuff that happens in movies and whatnot. You want to know why people cry at movies? It's because they feel they get to know the characters. They become emotionally invested in the story and in what happens to the characters. Also, who are you to tell people what's pathetic to cry about? If someone was that affected by the story, they can cry if they want to and I won't think any less of them.
Crying means something in the movie affected(right one?) you greatly and the movie did its job. So, if you want to or just can't hold it in, go for it.
Hell Toy Story 3 was just one huge tissue run for me and my mother and that made it even funnier to look at each other and joke about it.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to cry at the movies. I, myself, wouldn't, I don't tend to cry, and movies don't tend to affect me that much. The only thing I can recall making me shed a tear is Clannad after story, and guys: If there's one thing that it's okay to cry at it's Clannad.
None of the poll options reflected my views though, so I didn't vote.
I hate the notion that men must be made of steel and not be alowed to cry at anything, crying is one of the greatest emotions that humans being have, it can represent something joyus and wonderful or something truly terrible in equal measure.
I love that makes me cry, I'm not afraid to admit it.
Films based on true stories or real life seem to have even greater effect on me. Something like Restrepo, or Diving bell and the Butterfly, or Waltz with Bashir. Waltz with Bashir never fails to make me cry at that pivotal moment at the end, when it suddenly switches from animation to actual news footage and shows the bodies piled up in the streets and the women crying.
