So I've been looking at other gaming websites, and there are a lot of people who suggest that the new Crysis demo is a copy/paste of COD. I gave my shot at the demo, and I love it!! Don't see the correlation to COD, because a lot of things are used from game to game throughout the years.

Perks - some of the same from CoD, but renamed.
Killstreaks - You need to collect dog tags to get them, whoop-dee-doo thats so different. Also same killstreaks from CoD (Radar, Airstrike, Helicopter)
Accolades - a lot directly copied from MW2
Create-a-Class - same as CoD, except you have to earn an attachment point by getting kills with a weapon, and you spend that point on an attachment. You also gain weapon points as you level up; you use that to unlock a weapon of your choice. Not very different.
Kill-cam - same as CoD...
You get the point. Theres much more than this also.

Does it matter? CoD multi is pretty fun and well done. If Crysis 2 multiplayer is like CoD then good. Crysis 1 multiplayer was pretty meh compared to CoD.

I think people also fail to realize that most, if not all of these things were done in games before CoD. I mean killstreaks? Really? That shit has been around since the early Quake/Unreal games. Suggesting that features were taken from CoD when CoD took them from something else is ridiculous.
Hahahaha ok buddy you can definitely get 11 kills in Quake 3 and call in an attack helicopter.

Not sure about Quake 3, but you can do both of those things, and more, in Unreal Tournament 2006. New CoD games are a joke compared to it.
Never heard of UT06. 99, 03, 04 and UT3 are the only ones I'm aware of. And if you're unsure about Quake then why did you mention it?

Are you on the drugs? He said you can do many of the things like killstreaks in Quake/Unreal games, You retorted that you can't do the helicopter in Q3, he said he wasn't sure about that, but that unreal had it, and then you're asking why he brought up Q3 in the first place?

I used the helicopter as an example for a killstreak. I'm talking about killstreaks you can call in not from the scoreboard. If you didn't realize that then you obviously have never played any Call of Duty games after the 3 nor the Crysis 2 demo and you don't have business in this thread. He mentioned Quake as an example of a game which you call in killstreaks, and none of the Quake games have anything close to that. He said he was unsure of it so I asked why he mentioned it. You shouldn't use an example you're unsure of as an arguement.

I would rather say that Crysis Demo = Killzone 2, it handles almost the same in my eyes.

But, yeah, the CoD comparisons are entirely valid.

I myself don't have issues with the game being like CoD.

To me, the demo felt like a worse version of COD. And I hate the COD series. Seriously, why do bullets do less damage then fists? The fact that the killstreaks are literally copy/pasted from Cod4 doesn't help its case either.

There appears to be a flame war going
*gets out popcorn*

OT, I still think Crysis 2 will be unique enough to play, its not exactly like they are copying everything from COD, unless COD has super cyro suits...

UT2006 was one of my favorites. Played that at LAN parties so much. I mentioned Quake and Unreal in the general sense...I obviously haven't played all of the games in each franchise, but the earlier Quake games did have killstreaks. Helicopter strikes, not so much. That's something Unreal had, though, as previously mentioned.
Ok I have some points for both sides.

1. Killstreaks existed in Unreal Tournament and to a lesser extent Quake, no surprise there, CoD didn't invent it, and then cgmetallica1981 proceeded to talk about helicopter attacks where he was previously talking about the existence of killstreaks? Hmmm.
Well, cgmetallica1981 may just think that Helicopter Attacks == Killstreaks instead of being a bonus for GETTING said killstreak, in which case that makes sence.

2. There is no Unreal Tournament 2006, there is however Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Tournament 3 and you might be talking about one of them. Unreal Tournament 3 used to be called Unreal Tournament 2007, so you may be talking about that.

There was no Unreal 2006

It goes 2004, UR champ 2(2005), and Unreal 3(2007)

Unreal 3 was released three weeks after MW1 if it does allow you call in an attack heli I doubt either stole from each other

The 'earlier' Quake games never had kill streaks. No Quake game has had kill streaks, if you had a successive series of kills in Quake 3/Quake 3: Arena you would get an 'impressive' or 'excellent' from the announcer, but it didn't affect gameplay at all. Quake 1 and 2 didn't have any announcers and didn't have any rewards for killing people without dying. And there was only four Quake games, so which 'earlier' ones are you talking about? The first two that had no rewards in multiplayer, or Quake 3 where you get a verbal reward that has no bearing on the game, or Quake 4 which wasn't even made by ID and the multiplayer was tacked on.

Back onto the topic of Crysis 2, I think some stuff definitely seems CoD-like, but the game plays so much differently because of the nanosuit, climbing, etc., that the similarity is only skin deep.

Are all games with split-screen multiplayer cut-and-paste copies of Goldeneye? Of course not, it was just a feature that was pioneered by Goldeneye.

So a better question is this: Are FPS games with regenerating health, kill-cams, grenade indicators, perks, and custom MP classes really clones of Call of Duty, or is the Call of Duty series just so pervasive and influential that these gameplay elements are simply part of the new FPS genre standard?
