Nah, it's the noob's fault for listening to strangers telling him to monkey with his computer. If you're gullbile enough to do that, then you don't need to be on the internets. In a way it could have been for his own protection, he might have gotten sucked into one of those nigerian email schemes.Sib said:sorry to admit, but i may have helped someone convince an absolute internet noob (you know the kind that starts a post in a forum to aggressively and is a total jackass?)to delete his system32 folder.
was quite funny because after we convinced him, he just never was seen again...in retrospect it may have been a bit harsh
Yeah, it's his fault!! His fault for not being as smart as those guys! His fault they abused their position of wisdom and took advantage of him! It's not like they could have just explained to him what the System32 folder was, so next time he'd know, right? And if he'd gotten suckered into a Nigerian e-mail scam, it'd be his fault too!John Galt said:Nah, it's the noob's fault for listening to strangers telling him to monkey with his computer. I love people like you. Really, I do. You're wonderful, the way you leap into the defence of anything and everything that might possibly need defending. I also have yet to meet one who isn't a raving hypocrite. I don't know you, so I might be wrong, but from experience people who are bastions of altruism are few and far between. As in nearly non-existant.p1ne said:Sorry for the dbl post, I couldn't resist this example.

WAKE UP and realize that the victim ALWAYS gets the blame.
He's pretty much got it. The problem with cyberbullieing is that it can and has translated into REAL bullying. It happened to me when I was in high school. Someone wrote and posted an embarassing story with me as the star. I didn't hear the end of it for months. And this was on top of all the other bullying I experienced. What did I do? I wore a video game shirt.CanadianWolverine said:I wish cyber bullying was a myth.
I've had my computer hacked with a key logger, which after the harassment seemed to have a climax in a bizarre civil email conversation with my hacker, who apparently thought I was cute , by emailing myself. While the hacker was nice enough to tell me how to remove the keylogger in the end, it basicly left such a sour taste in my mouth that I was paying hard earned money for this shit, that I pulled the plug on my internet connection and went
back to just playing single player games.
On top of that, anyone who cares to look can see a number of facebook groups or before that webpages, dedicated to the hate of a person, encouraging as many people to join so they can show the person the hate is directed at just how much the world hates them. Use of sites like Hot or Not, where a cyber bully will post the most unflattering picture possible of their target and use the resulting score to break another piece off their psyche. There are even more damaging ways to cyber bully, but I won't even list them and give low level d-bags ideas, I've probably typed up too much as it is.
Cyber bullies are far more complicated that just chat, which I agree is easy enough to block or uninstall. There are friggin levels to this BS, hate is a pretty strong motivator.![]()
I've never been bullied, and I can tell you that cyber-bullying is pure bullshit.Malygris said:Personally, I'm of the opinion that anyone who's experienced real-life bullying will tell you that "cyber-bullying" is pure bullshit.
I'm sorry, but it is just plain stupid to take computer advice from strangers, especially when those strangers have very poor opinions of you. Trusting other people without good reason is a one way ticket to disappointment. It was his fault for trusting a total stranger on the internet.p1ne said:Yeah, it's his fault!! Good Lord, are they still preaching that crap? Have they now moved on to promoting empty-minded doormat peace over IM as well?Singing Gremlin said:We got this lecture on cyber-bullying at school. I stopped paying attention at about the same time they began hailing the block button as the work of the devil and how ever mousing anywhere near it would instantly bury you in bad karma and cause a fairy genocide. The hypocricy of the anti-bullying campaign amazes me. It's like they try and force the idea of everyone being happy and nice and talking to each other down our throats. I don't like you, I don't want to talk to you, I'm not going to talk to you, oh quit whining, I don't see how I'm making your life miserable by removing the presence of someone who hates your guts.
But then I'm a heartless scrote and have probably missed the blindingly obvious reason why blocking makes me the devil incarnate.
Yes, I'm ranting now. Quiet, me.
Well, I think you kind of missed the point. Bullies nearly always invent some kind of excuse to justify their actions - they asked for it, they had to learn what the real world is like sometime, they needed to be taught their mistake, etc. My aim is not to defend the people who are routinely bullied on the internet, but to point out an important fact to the antagonists:Singing Gremlin said:I love people like you. You want to be the hero who defends the stupid, go for it. But you're not really going to change human nature by shouting WAKE UP at the cheerfully malicious.
yay i feel all warm and fuzzy now, its like electro-shock therapy for the noob lolJohn Galt said:Nah, it's the noob's fault for listening to strangers telling him to monkey with his computer. It may not seem like it to you, but there are lots of people on the internet who are either young children, know little to nothing about computers, or are fairly new to the whole online experience and simply don't know what to expect yet. Is this their fault? Of course not. Coming from real life experience, most people would assume this: when you ask someone for help and they respond, they're actually going to help you, not lie and fuck with you for kicks.John Galt said:I'm not saying I condone telling people to reformat their computers, I just don't have any sympathy for the poor fool gullible enough to do it. If you go on the internet, you have to expect the worst from people. That way you're prepared for people trying to mess with you just for kicks.
