First thing I thought of when I came into this thread.
But yeah, I'm all in for cybernetic mods just because they're less restrictive than what you can do than gene splicing. Sure, with gene splicing I can have perfect vision, and see from much greater distances, but do I get zoom? Can I see different spectrums of light? How about night vision? What if I want ALL of that at once? Can't do that with biology.
Strictly speaking... yes to most of those. There are a multitude of animals that can see further into the spectrum then we can, well into ultraviolet and infrared. And there are many ancillary organs from the animal kingdom that can push you a bit more then that. Once you get out of those two, you're kind of out of the 'vision' spectrum, but their's still some animals we can jack organs from to get there too.
There are also many animals (Particularly birds) that can see as well, if not better, then any camera you could conceivable jam into your face or eye socket; Perhaps even better then what you could fit into a reasonable, human sized sensor mast. And with a minor tweak or two to your visual processing lobes, 'zooming' would become a meaningless concept. Passive night vision is also an easy fix (Though you would need a flashlight for active, but hell, you can get those for a couple bucks).
Yes, an animal can have all of those individually, but not all at once. That's the point, in a biological animal you can't cycle through different "modes" of vision.
I mean if you go gene splicing how controllable is it? Like can I give myself wings? I mean "realistically" (really heavy air quotes) to do that I would probably have to fully mutate myself into a bird person. I feel like cybernetic would be the way to go. Interchangeable parts and all that.

That because of how evolution works - Animals don't have a check list of traits they go down, working on one after they've mastered another. They get a trait, and thousands and millions of years to hone it. And because of how 'lazy' biology is, organs tend to just get better at what they're already good at, rather then expanding into new territories.
When you're talking about human guided gene splicing, this is a non-issue. Visual acuity and night vision are largely about having bigger pinholes (Pupils) and more sensitive sensors (Retina), while increased spectrum coverage is related to simply having additional photosensitive cells, and how many of them, and how they are distributed. There's no reason to believe a clever enough bio-engineer couldn't fix both of these, though you'd probably be mistaken for Satan by they time their done.
And the only reason you're thinking in 'modes' is because of our limited visual spectrum - To see 'outside' our spectrum, we need to either compress and convert those signals the brain can't understand into our visual spectrum, or have 'modes,' where wave lengths are converted directly into visually recognizable colors they don't really look like, but we can process (Predator vision). Again, this is something easily rectified by engineering - You wouldn't need modes, you'd just have more colors to your rainbow. It's hard as hell to imagine, I grant you, but that's how it would work.
I'll be the black equivalent to being a Togusa (from SAC) in this situation... I'll [probably] have the cyberbrain to cyber-communicate with those within [my] frequency, for example, but that's about it... I'm trying to stay as natural as possible until science can make me shapeshift on a human scale...
Other than that... uh...

Could any of them make me a shapeshifter from a sexual perspective, at least? If so, then yes... If not, then I'll stick with duel-padding...
Other than that, it would be cool to be like Marceline... only with the mortality of Bonnie...
OT: Cybernetics all the way. I've spent so much time dreaming of awesome parts. Legs filled with compressed air to negate kinetic fall damage, piston forearms a la Big O for that "Umph" in your punch. Coolant system for those hot terrains and operating with mild core reflux to warm you up in the tundras. Not to mention mechanical UI interface, CPU boosted reflexes, and eyes that could do a HUGE amount of things.
The only way I would go genetics is if I could inFamous myself and have Logia-like powers like Enel.
Gene splicing, then use handheld technology which would still exist with faster reflexes / better senses. No worries about hacking / maintenance / upgrades.
Probably gene splicing. Getting cybernetics just seems like it would require far too much cleaving and removing of body parts for me to get behind. If I lost my leg or something? Fuck yeah, make me a cyborg.
Cybernetics, praise the Machine God in all his glory!
I'd go the cybernetics route personally. Rather fond of stuff like that from Ghost in the Shell, Robocop and the Skitarii from 40K. I do like the idea of having a on board music player built into my body so a MP3 player or whatever could be hooked up to it. Would love to blare the Robocop theme as I blast mutant cannibals with some onboard weapons.
Gene splicing, I don't like the idea of losing senses I understand for ones I don't. The sense of touch comes to mind when replacing limbs with artificial ones. The idea of just knowing how much strength I'm exerting without actually feeling it freaks me out.
I'd probably go with cybernetics. A lot of the animal powers can be replicated with technology and even they can't compete with a surprise wrist missile. Is there a risk of becoming addicted to implants? Yes, but to quote Wilhelm from Borderlands: TPS "Laugh now, but I'll be the one shooting lasers out of my eyes while you're all dying of Turbocancer!"
My initial response was neither because I'm comfortable living as an unmodified human for the rest of my life.
If a situation arises where I will need augmentation, either of the technological or genetic variety, to survive/live everyday life, then I'd be a little more open to it.
I'm not getting a usb port sticking out of back of my head or cat ears, though, I don't care how 'uncool' that will make me.
