Maybe. I've tried DMing a couple times before to limited success, but that was years ago. I've helped my DM with worldbuilding a few times, and I really like that aspect of it. I've been thinking of giving it another go lately, and I think I have a better idea of what to do and I know what my biggest mistakes were last time.

I've never done it, so I can't say for certain if I would be. Would I be willing to? Yes. Do I think I could do it well? Hell yeah, I'm a boss at stuff like that.

I DM my weekly game and have for the last 4 years. It tends to fall to me to do so, as a result I am more than capable.

I prefer between 3 and 4. Any group over 5 is too big in my experience. I was a player in a game with 9 people once... worst game of DnD in my entire life.
9? Yikes.

Although, if we're speaking of worst experiences... I once ran a game. At one point, I had 21 people who wanted to play in it. So I split the game in half - I took 10, and I appointed another GM from the players to take another 10. I gave him instructions about what he needed to do so that we could (eventually) bring both groups back to the main plot.

Not only did he not follow those instructions, he went entirely off on his own, so that the other group had no idea what was going on. I was too busy trying to juggle 10 players. In the end, the whole game was a massive mess. Terrible, terrible experience.

That does sounds quite horrifying. Even if everyone in a group is a good player and knows what's going on (both plot-wise and rule-wise) a large group will constantly get sidetracked and distracted. When you have that many people its nearly impossible to get them all to focus on one activity like DnD.

Hey folks,

Just asking a quick question to any and all D&D players/enthusiasts:

Could you be a competent DM if the situation arose?

Thanks
I DM a table of 6 every week.

I am a DM already, its okay, the people I'm playing with seem determined to test the limits of my sanity, but apart from that they're good at RP

I'm our group's DM.

We were a bunch of first timers, so it's been a big learning process for all of us.

I think I've done an alright job at it, but I've not really got any frame of reference.

I DM'd a group of 4/5 people a couple years ago. All of the groups i've played with have been 1 DM:4-6 people.

No, I would be too self-conscious to be able to be a DM. Plus, I'm the non-confrontational sort, so whenever my players tried to 'backseat DM' I wouldn't try to assert any control.

I have a love hate relationship with dming. Sometimes it's fun and I get to tell a cool story. Other time they find a way to break the game, an item that makes them nigh invulnerable, or they just push me to the point I want to slam their heads in my car door. It dose 1d10 damage plus str modifier with a x3 crit. ^_^
