Well, I just got on and the featured Yahoo story was that there is a Batman: Dark Knight Sequel coming up. Now stand in awe of my amazing copy and paste skills

Holy blockbuster, Batman! A buzzy article from the New York Times revealed that director Christopher Nolan is hard at work on another flick.

Of course, it's not like this is a huge surprise. There was no way Hollywood wasn't going to make a sequel to the "The Dark Knight," the third-highest-grossing movie of all time. Still, Nolan's participation will likely cause a huge sigh of relief among moviegoers. Remember when, back in the '90s, director Joel Schumacher replaced Tim Burton and nearly killed the franchise?

The forthcoming blockbuster (not yet titled) also illustrates the escalating battle between Warner Bros. -- which produces many movies based on DC Comics, including "Batman" -- and Disney, which recently acquired DC's biggest rival, Marvel Comics.

Indeed, both studios have a slew of superhero flicks coming soon to theaters. In the New York Times article, it's revealed that "Wonder Woman" and "The Flash," both longtime favorites from DC, are "expected to (be) announced" in the coming months. Additionally, DC's "The Green Lantern," starring Ryan Reynolds as the hero and Blake Lively as his lovely love interest, is scheduled for a 2011 release. There's even a rumor that Mr. Nolan may supervise the development of a "Superman" reboot.

Clearly DC has a lot of irons in the fire. But Marvel isn't surrendering the cineplex anytime soon. Not only does Sony's forthcoming "Spider-Man" reboot have a hot director at the helm (Mark Webb of "500 Days of Summer"), it'll also come to theaters in 3D. Barring any delays, the flick, which will focus on Spider-Man's high school trials and tribulations, will spin its way onto the big screen in 2012.

What's that, Marvel superfan? Can't want that long? No problem; "Iron Man 2" has you covered. Paramount's sequel to the surprise 2008 hit starring Robert Downey Jr. lands in theaters this summer and already has a sizable following in Search. Over the past month, online queries on the film are among Yahoo's top 3,000. Additionally, Web interest in the trailer shows no signs of slowing down. Kind of like the war between DC and Marvel.
YES! YES! I personally loved the Dark Knight and I can't wait for the sequel, what about you Escapist, what's your thoughts on this?

EDIT: I added the Riddler option because you are all wanting him to be the villain.

I hope no one is surprised by this. Dark Knight was always going to have a sequel.

Probably gonna be the Riddler. They just need to make the fight scenes more barable to watch.

Yep. Even though I posted this, I am most excited for Green lantern. He was my all time favorite super hero.

MAYBE THAT'S IT!

By giving Superman the 'Dark Knight treatment,' it's actually a clever way of saying 'cross-over.'

The prospect has me less than thrilled.

As much as I loved the previous two movies (possibly my all time favorite movies), I sort of don't want a third movie. I mean, after seeing the last movie I thought that that end seemed a definitive ending for these movies. They were great, but the Joker really is the Batman villain and any villain after that seems like a step down. If the movie at least lives up to the Dark Knight then I'll be happy, but I'll be surprised if it does.

I'm excited about Inception (Nolan's current project).
I was a Nolan fan before The Dark Knight, and I really love what he's done with the franchise. I'm totally excited for another movie, if done right.

they need to handle the joker situation very carefully. i would have an actor who does a very good heath ledger impersonation playing the role of the joker. then only have him in one scene that lasts 2-3 minutes tops. see how the fans react to that and go from there with the 4th movie. i really hope that the villian is the riddler or the penguin and not anyone with superpowers. clayface or mr. freeze just wouldn't fit well within the established universe.

I want to see Harley Quinn, or at the very least a mention to her in the opening scene. Morgan Freeman reading to Bruce Wayne from a medical dossier, reccapping The Jokers capture "Yes Mr.Wayne, it seems that The Joker has a new pshyciatrist, one Harleen Quinzel. She basicially jumped at the chance to analyse him."

Then at the end of the film after Bats has disposed of Riddler or Penguin or whoever and all status quo is restored--

A young woman runs frightened through a dilapidated building at midnight, panicking and exhausted. A moonlit shadow flits alongside the woman as she runs, a cartwheeling Harley cutting in and out of view between the broken pillars. The woman trips, falls and cowers in a corner. Harley sings, echoing through the building--"Hush little baby dont say a word, mommas gonna buy you a mocking bird, and if that mocking bird dont sing.....mommas gonna buy you a........di...amond....ring.........." Harley face leans in out of the shadows and then the movie cuts to credits.

Nolan's only supervising it, he's not going to be making the movie.

Also...

Don't deny it, Riddler will be the best damn villain ever. Now if only they make batman(Christian Bale) more smarter, cause right now he seems to be all brawn than brain.

Wait is that..David Tennant....OMG that be so sweet!!! Love Doctor Who...I think he could actually pull off a pretty dark riddler. OR turn it into complete crazy drug trip.

The next movie may well run simular vent to the Long Night, a gritty street drama mixed with the fugitve. If done properly Bane may work. With all the nuts still running free from the first movie Narrows criminal breakouts and Batmans massive villians roster there is alot of possibilities. Hmm...introduce Robin...ekks...maybe do a Nightwing type storyarch instead if they really need to go that way, but Bat's is not done his lone wolf epic.
