Milk Chocolate. I almost never eat white chocolate but don't dislike it. Dark Chocolate however is more bitter than I really like too. I strongly prefer milk chocolate. As for chocolate truffles...well same thing really...I don't understand why so many use dark chocolate. I just prefer sweeter things and dark can be too bitter to me.

Dark by a hair, milk right behind it. Those two are the best, especially with fruit and nuts and cream fillings. White chocolate is only good as almond bark, otherwise it's gross.

Where did people get the idea that white isn't chocolate? Proper white is usually a little bit below the cocoa content of milk. I wouldn't consider stuff like "Milky Bar" proper white.

I like them all but deciding what to buy depends where I am. When I was in asia I bought normal milk (manufactured in asia) and it tasted like it had about 10% cocoa. Their dark tasted like milk, just without as much milk so after that I always got dark because it was the only thing strong enough to taste like chocolate. Western countries I'd go for milk as long as it's around 50% cocoa - weaker than that it just doesn't satisfy. White needs to be good quality - those Lindt balls are great.

Dark chocolate. Around 70% cacao is perfect, 85% is fine but everything above is too bitter (I even tried 99%). White is not a chocolate, it has 0% cacao, just tasteless cacao butter with a bunch of sugar.

Oops. I voted for white chocolate. I hate white chocolate. I like milk chocolate usually best for just normal eating, but dark or semi for cooking purposes.

White Chocolate is nice in small quantities, but I can't stomach large amounts as it is very sweet. Milk Chocolate used to be my favorite, but as time goes by I'm favoring dark chocolate more and more.

It's not a preference(for me), I actually can't eat milk or white chocolate. Both make me sick. Dark chocolate is the only one I can eat without being sick.

Also, white chocolate isn't really chocolate in the first place.

I like milk chocolate. I would normally say white, but it plays "tie the sheep-shank knot" with my intestines. Hate dark, avoid it at all costs.

This was harder than I expected. I like white more for an occasional treat, but milk is definitely easier in any amount.

Milk chocolate is obviously going to dominate this poll. Duh.
And white chocolate is going to come in last because people just think it's weird.

White chocolate isn't even real chocolate.
Oh, yeah, I read that somewhere. Isn't it supposed to be all the stuff they add to make milk chocolate, but without the actual cacao?
IT'S COCOA BUTTER! BLAAAAAAAAH! ANYONE WHO SAYS IT'S NOT REAL CHOCOLATE SHOULD BE GLARED AT! HNNNNNNG!

But seriously. Saying white chocolate, which is the distilled fat of the cacao bean, "isn't chocolate" is like saying that butter, the distilled fat of milk, "isn't dairy".

OT: White chocolate, because it's bleeding hard to get and by far the smoothest/creamiest. Ahhhhhh.

Failing that, dark chocolate is really nice.

By the way, anybody else found it weird as a kid that milk is white, but white chocolate isn't milk?
White chocolate is milk chocolate without the cacao powder. It's cacao fat, milk and sugar.

But yeah, milk is far and away my favorite. It's also the only one of the three that works on its own. Both dark and white needs something else to go with them. Something to take the edge off the bitterness for dark, and something to dilute the sweetness of the white. (Milk is still enhanced by adding something else though, hazelnut for example).

For example I love dark chocolate covered coconut paste(or runny caramel), and I love white chocolate covered vanilla ice cream(especially cream based ice cream with real vanilla).

White chocolate, I'm also part of the bizarre species that aren't much fans of "real" chocolate.
I personally only enjoy white chocolate when it is used as an ingredient. For example: white chocolate cookies can be very good, or in cupcakes or what have you. It's not bad, just not a great standalone. I can also totally understand not being a fan of regular chocolate. I'm not one of those people, but I can see the taste and texture being unappealing to some.

Between the three I prefer milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is often too bitter or straight up tastes like coffee: a taste I'd rank up there with hard liquor for those who haven't acquired the taste, which is to say absolutely fucking awful. I only know what the latter tastes like because I was 5 and I thought it was apple juice and my dad didn't see until he heard me spitting it out.

I prefer dark or milk chocolate, white chocolate is too sickly sweet for my tastes, also I tend to eat a lot less chocolate when I eat dark chocolate, which is good becuase i'm trying to lose weight.

No love for the semi sweet? I really wish that chocolate bars came in that variety so that I wouldn't have to eat chips most of the time.

Out of the options milk. Dark is too bitter for me and white is too sweet.

Also, anyone else like orange chocolate?

"Uh... Just give me my damn chocolate and no vanilla will get hurt!"

Yeah, I may like milk chocolate more due to my addiction to Snickers, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't eat any kind of chocolate that's been laid out right in front of me... especially if it's in cake form...

Dark? Pfff.
Mint infused black chocolate is the food of gods.

P.S. Yes I know that those are mostly used as synonyms, but I call chocolate "black" when its cocoa content isn't lower that 85%

I'm happy with any chocolate as long as it is reasonably good quality. If given the choice of any I'd probably go for white chocolate given that I see milk and dark chocolate around far more often.

*snip* ...I find milk and white chocolate all too common... *snip*
That's odd, I rarely find any predominantly white chocolate based things around. Cadbury's Dream [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_%28chocolate%29] is the only all white bar I can think of, and I haven't seen that being sold anywhere for years. Dark chocolate I find relatively easy to come by however, there are plenty of dark chocolate bars around and other products like dark chocolate coated biscuits seem far more common than any potential white chocolate equivalents.
How did you forget the Milky Bar (The Milky Bar Kid)?? Ok the same goes with Bournville Dark Chocolate bar and honestly white and dark chocolate tend to be sold as alternative variety to the main chocolate bar (e.g. Kit Kat) but I still view dark chocolate bar as a seperate brand to be more expensive compared to the other two types.

At work there seems to be a lot of people that really like dark chocolate. I prefer milk chocolate so if I take in milk chocolate Hob Nobs (the best biscuit for dunking in tea) there are always some people that moan and say they prefer the dark chocolate ones. White chocolate rarely makes an appearance in any form.

So, just out of curiosity, I thought I'd ask what the people of The Escapist prefer; dark, milk or white chocolate.
It depends on my mood. Most of the time I prefer Milk Chocolate. Then, there are those days when nothing less than Dark Chocolate will do.
