There is no good blanket answer for this question. It depends on so many things, the duration and depth of the previous relationship, the situation under which it ended, etc... All one can really do is use their best judgement.

What the hell does the `six mouths' poll option mean? I can think of a few interpretations, but none of them seem particularly apt.

[sub]...although somewhat more worrying is the number of people that picked it.[/sub]

If you broke up then it was because one or both of you decided that the other was not giving enough in return to make a commitment worth it on a personal level. Sure there's a ton of "prettier" ways to describe it but at the core of it this is what it boils down to.

A relationship is about having a person (or several people, in the case of poly-amour) in your life that you enjoy being near and that also attract you sexually. Someone that can consistently teach you new things about yourself and enrich you life be being a part of it. If that is no longer the case (or perhaps never was) then staying in the relationship is either done out of cowardice or courtesy. No matter the reason it's not healthy for any of the involved parties.

If the relationship is over then your former partner no longer has any say in your romantic and/or sexual life and all that is left is your responsibility towards yourself.

Unless of course you're a teenager in which case relationships have more to do with social status and self-image than emotion, trust and sex. Those sort of "relationships" should be handled according to whatever social norms govern your particular group.

since he already answered the right answer, Ill give the creative one:

yes, everything must be (and is) about games.
comedians? tangle with the subject of the game of life.
characters being killed? they were obviously killed over a discussion about games
wierdest thing we have seen? the very fact that the thread issues prizes to those who saw the wierdest thing means it by itself it a game (plus, you could say a game could be wierd, I guess)
a song for badassery? why, badass is second name of chuck norris, and a song fitting could only be found on a video game, designed to simulate a fraction of the experience that is being chuck norris.

OT: while I dont realy have a personal opinion on the matter, the 1 week for every 3 months thing stated above sounds reasonable

There isn't a universally correct formula for this sort of thing. Because there's a lot of different variables involved, mostly in the form of the people involved in the relationship.

Basically, if you think you're a douche for dating soon after a breakup... you probably are. If you don't think you're a douche, somebody somwhere will anyway.

You have to wait some time. Forget about being a douche, but are you willing to be with girlfriend all the time?? be a player, enjoy the single life and then date again but enjoy being single

Usually after a break-up I'm in no hurry to date again. After my divorce, it was almost two years and even then it was because she forced herself into my life. Glad she did.

On the poll I voted a month. Sounds reasonable and respectful enough.

Whenever you are ready. If you ended it with the girl, one would have to assume you werent feeling it and thus I don't see why you'd "need" time to be alone for a bit before dating again.

If she broke up with you, then it's none of her business what you do. She let you go, right?

Just don't date before you're ready. It just causes drama and hurt feelings. Nobody wants to be someone's rebound.
