Both these games are on for 15 bucks on steam right now. I am buying solely for the mods, so I want to know which one I should stick with. Any suggestions or Mod recommendations?

I'd go with Dark Crusade, even though soulstorm might have better mods, I doubt it, its generally agreed upon that Soulstorm was shit, and that most people stuck with Dark Crusade.

Go with Dark Crusade, I've played and completed both and I can't stress it enough that Soulstorm is horrible.
Soulstorm tries to be bigger than Dark Crusade by allegedly giving you a whole solar system to conquer but in essence it's the same length campaign as Dark Crusade (just with two extra, not very good, Stronghold missions) and all of the new additions were...disappointing (which is a shame because the Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle do have interesting lore and backstories in the tabletop game).
In short, go with Dark Crusade (even the base game on it's own is better,mods be damned).

Dark Crusade is a thousand times better.
Better Race mixture, better global mechanics, better characters and FAR better stronghold battles. Still one of my favorite PC games ever.

I would go for Dark Crusade, beacuse of it having some really good mods availble including:
-Inquisition Daemonhunters (+ Custom Sound Patch)
-Tyranids
-Steel Legion
-Firestorm Over Kronus
There is also a load of custom maps availble

Dark Crusade. Soulstorm introducing Aircraft was a MASSIVE failure and ruined a lot of the tactical defence -> offence strategies me and my friends used online.
And on a side note, generally during the reign of Dark Crusade, their were better mods and maps to be found on DOWfiles (to name one of the many mod sites) than with Soulstorm, seemingly the creativity seemed to dry up with the fourth iteration of the series as well as most of the fun.
And (and) to mention briefly DOW2, "what the hell were they thinking?" sums it up nicely.

Definitely Dark Crusade. Soulstorm truly was a sub-par release, with "flying" units that just hovered and a campaign with truly awful voice acting (both the "METAL BAWKSES" and "SPESS MEHREENS" memes got their start here) and absurd inconsistencies with the established fluff (a non-Forge world producing hundreds of Baneblades at a time? How the hell does that work?) While there are a few good mods for Soulstorm, the modding community pretty much dried up once DoW II came out. Dark Crusade on the other hand has all sorts of top notch mods: Steel Legion, Inquisition: Daemonhunt, Tyranid mod, Exaggerated Armies, etc.
Obviously Dark Crusade. Even Relic itself has disavowed Soulstorm. Plus, Eliphas is awesome. That said, forget about multiplayer on anything but Soulstrom, but the MP there is horribly unbalanced and unfun anyways. If you want Dawn of War MP just play the sequel.
I actually own the disc for Platinum, but only Vanilla and Winter Assault work on it. The damned Dark Crusade portion of the disc was broken, and since I bought it in another country, I can't return it.kiri2tsubasa said:
