I know it really depends on what you prefer DC comics or DragonBall Z, but I will ask anyway.
Super Saiyan V.S Superman who will win?
I am not a great person to ask because my experience of Dragonball Z is this video and various other parodies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pSmhZFbCy0
But my money is on the man of steel because he can pull planets around, his punch alone would probably kill Goku because Supes is faster than...... something very fast (he almost beat the flash in a race one time). So Superman would move faster than goku can react and smash Goku's head in, with an orbit altering right hook. But apparently death is not much of an issue for Goku as he has died and come back multiple times. Superman would be able to deal with this by kissing Goku passionately on the lips, causing him amnesia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2hXpc4n9cc
So yeah DragonBall Z fans bring the hate but I am not really biased just acting on my knowledge which is a lot of DC and no DBZ. So it's not really biased just the least reliable estimation out there. I have also bought season 1 of DBZ off ebay today, it was a gift to myself to celebrate the fact that my foul existence will continue to linger past the Mayan's expectations.

We must all take into account that deep down most of us will be pretty biased toward, one character. For example I didnt watch DBZ when I was younger, I bought super hero comics, watched the Christopher Reed series and had a cuddly superman I went to bed with (I bet that made Lois Lane jealous). And others grew up watching DBZ although probably not with a cuddly Saiyan. A lot of your DBZ avatars suggest this as well.
Just going away from the alien battling part for a minute, I find it interesting how Goku is beating Supes in terms of votes. Considering this is a predominantly Western site and you are all going for the Eastern character. To me it suggests something I have held as an opinion for years now, the Japanese just do cartoons + geek stuff better than us in the west. Or maybe DBZ just appeals more to the video gaming crowd, It could be either. This really suprises me though because I am British so therefore pretty neutral in terms of background, but Superman could be interpreted as an allegorical personification of American values and the countries ideals etc. This is due to his wartime creation, when patriotism and propaganda was rife on all sides of the conflict. I understand that zealous patriotism is not a prevalent trait of most escapist regulars, and I am not trying to cause anyone offence here I am not saying patriotism is a bad thing. Its just that despite Superman being the great Western Icon he is, I would go so far as to say better known than Goku by far. Goku is still significantly leading! prehaps it is just the decline of popularity in comics.
