I would suggest Mass Effect and DA2, as most of the other games follow the standard Bioware formula (character archetypes, story and such).
Personally i would recommend DA2, as it has the most well-rounded characters and a story that isn't about the same old "chosen one fights the big evil baddie" and deals with more humane and relatable subjects.

KotOR. It was the game that regained my hope in the Star Wars franchise. That's saying something, and that something is "GO PLAY THIS GAME!!!"
Toss up for me between Kotor and Mass Effect. I would say play kotor, enjoy it. Finish it. Play Mass Effect.
Of course Mass effect is a living series, once you play mass effect one you'll be able to go into mass effect 2 then join us in waiting excitedly for mass effect 3. You can get in on the hype while it's there. Kotor is a classic and since the sotry stops for now at kotor II once you're done with it you won't need to worry about it any more and you'll have it under your belt. Along with being able to add your own two cents when people praise HK-47 or Bastilla Shan. The argument for both is good. At this point it looks entirely up to you.

DA:O is half-decent (played on a PC) and ME plays mediocre, but is tolerable because of the atmosphere and fairly consistent overal quality.
JE just maybe worth a look, but you can do so much better, if you want good martial arts gameplay.
