I just purchased (almost a year after the fact) a copy of Demon'sssss Souls this last Wednesday, and, after beating several demon bosses, I was wondering what the rest of the community thought of it. Obviously, it's a hard game, but what has your personal experience with the game been like?

I started my character as a theif, just to see what I could do with it, and have died several times, (no surprise there) but I think it really is one of the most awesome, self-rewarding gaming experiences I have ever seen. The combat works really well, and you learn to get better quickly. Each death comes with a learning experience, and the experience is awesome. Once you get past the difficulty, I think the game really is quite engrossing and entertaining.

I don't see it as a hard game - it's just not a game that holds the player's hand.

I love it. So far, I've played through with more and more handicaps (I'm down to a Hands of God brawler with no rings/armor now[footnote]Every boss fight turns into this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCNICT2en_U][/footnote]) and I still haven't had enough. That's a pretty big testament to a title when I can play through it time and time again and still not get my fill.

It makes me wish I had a PS3. I only played up to the first demon (not even a good one - the big spiky blob), but the little I went through was amazing. Combat is like a complex dance, atmosphere that is foreboding, music (Oh, the music! I can watch that opening sequence over and over). Love it. Whenever I do get a PS3, this will be my first game for it.

Its one of the few hard games i enjoy.

There are games where its hard, but thats just because the designer is a d*ck.

But then there are games were its hard, but its because they want to challange you.

Case in point: Call of duty ((insert number here)) play it on the hardest difficulty, and your going to spend more time throwing grenades back then you are shooting. Because the designers are d*cks.

It's kind of hard, compared to all the sissy games being released, but I love it because of that.

Dislike, but not hate. I wouldn't mind it being punishingly hard if I felt there was some sort of point, but by the time I was done trying it, I still didn't see much of one.

Once you get through all of the Valley of Defilement, then that's it. One of the greatest games around.

Spoilers ahead, but I'll just recount my experiences.

- I did the usual beating world 1 until the Tower Knight gate.
- Got lost in the 2-2 caves before finding Flamelurker.
- Got stuck on Flamelurker and decided to come back later.
- Got lost so many times in 3-1 and 3-2.
- Got stuck on Maneaters, didn't come back here for ages.
- 4-1 was way to hard for me at the start.

Then I got to 5-1 really felt what everyone had described about the game came through.
I've never felt scared playing any horror game in recent memory - Dead Space and Resisdent Evil being the latest I played before Demon's Souls. ( I know Demon's Souls isn't horror )
But in 5-1 I started to feel something, fighting the enemies on narrow bridges and running away from the giant guys just got my heart pumping.
When I fought the Leech Monger I was too scared to move from cover for so long but after I beat it, I thought
" Ok, that rush it over, they can't really get that twice "

Then I saw the swamp. I think I spent nearly 2 hours there before finding Selen Vinland and I actually began to feel bad about what I was doing here.
The same way I felt ( and so many others constantly restate ) as I killed the collossi in Shadow of the Collosus.
When I arrived at the last area of the world, I wanted to turn back, I didn't want to fight Garl or Astaea.
I fought so hard up until then to keep my body form all throughout the whole world and here I wanted to die so I could stop ( since it wouldn't let me "Leave the way I came" )

I was the bad guy here - Not the demon's of the Valley.
Sure the ulterior motive of the demon's was to consume the world and destroy all life but here I had the genuine feeling that this place should be left as the grey area for those who were cast aside here, they deserved better.

I know you can't be invaded in boss battles ( Didn't know that so early on ) but I waited there, hoping someone would invade and kill me so I wouldn't have to fight anything there anymore.

Eventually I had to continue and I hated myself every step of the way - It was the ultimate feel bad. Even worse so than SotC.

Before this game the only thing I felt emotion for was MGS3 and since then Amnesia.

I don't think these words do what I felt or anyone else who felt the same way in this situation felt but it's the most acurrate way I could try to express it here.

TL;DR : Amazing Game.

I absolutely love it. My favorite PS3 game ever. I've currently played more than 100 hours over 2 characters. Once I finish with the Platinum on my heavy warrior type character, I'll probably replay it a few times with different styles.

The only thing I hate about the game is the drop rate of Pure Bladestone.

Meh. I enjoy a challenge, but I just didn't have any fun with it. Trial and error based gameplay has never really appealed to me, but I can recognize it was a good game. I just personally did not enjoy it...at all.

Boring, hard game.
Say it's hardcore.
Say if someone doesn't like it they are bad.

It's not that hard, just punishing. A lot like sexual fetishes, some gamers get off on losing several hours of progress to an unfair or unexpected death. I personally enjoyed the game, but once I put it down, the urge to pick it back up never came.

I dont love nor hate it, its just... meh. I can see why people would love it, its basically all you can ask for in a game. Difficult yet still beatable without controls/camera issues.

I just didn't have much fun with it :\

This game was the reason I bought a PS3, no joke. It has to be one of the most engaging games I have played since Half-Life 2. This game is the new standard to which I judge any new game I play, and it deserves that position fully.

Demon's Souls and I have a love-hate relationship. I love the idea of the challenge, but it hates me.

OMG LIEK DEMONS SOULS IS SO G00D!!!

*ahem*

Yeah, the game is great. It's not a horror game, but I'm scared for my life every time I enter a new room. It''s just so deep, with the combat, exploration, and epic bosses.
