I don't really care what a derailed thread evolves into as long as it is funny. I do however think we should limit this forum to only a few derailed threads per week. It does get grating when you're trying to have a good discussion and suddenly the thread veers off in a direction that some people seem dedicated to keep it in. That said, I do like a good derailed thread.
Moderation with derailment is nice before moderation with derailment has to happen.

I hate any derail "theme" you could possibly come up with. Hate.
In general, though, I like derails because they encourage a discussion going in a new direction, or take the edge off when one gets too heated. Unless they devolve into the previously aforementioned themes, in which case I just have to block a shit ton of annoying image macros and try to injure one or more participants with my mind.
