Box Art #4
Destroy All Humans! (PAL/US)

Sweet mother of smeg. This is a positively brilliant piece of work! Can you imagine a more colourful, chaotic and suitable image for a game entitled ?Destroy All Humans!?? We?ve got flying saucers, cow abduction, LOTS of explosions, hapless 50s civilians, shady MIB with futuristic weaponry and one of the most evil-looking aliens one can find on this side of the galaxy. He even has flames in his eyes! When this game came out, I had been looking forward to it for a while, but even if I had just found this box without ever hearing about it before, I would entirely have given it a look. I?m convinced that people of a certain mindset are physically unable to avoid buying something with this picture on it. In my first box art review I complimented the PAL God of War cover, but this trumps that by a mile.
One a personal note, the little Pandemic logo in the corner would have been a highly alluring aspect upon gazing upon this for the first time. Why? Because they had already made Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries by that point, both of which are outstanding series. Let?s go in phasers blasting, shall we?

As I mentioned, there?s a colossal anti-E.T. taking up the middle section of the box with his greatness. He?s the first thing your eyes are drawn towards, and certainly worthy of closer inspection. He?s snarling wickedly and giving some unseen foe a look of absolute menace. He doesn?t even care about the pesky humans cowering below, because he?s a legless alien Bad Arse with a laser gun the size of a Double-decker bus. He fears no man.
His entire style is massively 50s B-Movie, with the big head, white spacesuit and overly-complex glowing gun of doom. My favourite little touch? Note that his left hand only has three fingers. That?s craftsmanship. This is a bloke you don?t want to mess with.

Pretty soon you?ll notice a bewildered cow floating nearby, and naturally look up to see what?s keeping him there, only to find a classic flying saucer. Beautiful, eh? The cow itself looks particularly cartoonish, even more so than the people speeding around below. Zoom in and its eyes appear to be boggling outwards a bit. I think this was added late on just so nobody could possibly think that DAH was meant to be taken seriously. Bless you, Pandemic.

I?ve always found it interesting that neither of the human vehicles shown show up in the game. Either the Mega-Crypto blew them all up, or some revisions were made to the cars that appear. Either way, an enigma is always good fun.

Now the title. ?Destroy All Humans!?? Not only a fantastic name by itself, they went one better and gave it a delicious yellow and red font that is identical to the movie posters of old. The best part is the exclamation mark, which makes it less than half as subtle and four times as great, not to mention me very happy indeed.
The subtitle follows I a similar fashion, with a nice blue tint and a sweet springy-looking effect going on. I?d say it was groovy, expect the sequel game was set in the 60s. But that?s another story...

Lastly, notice that the night sky can be seen hanging ominously above the scene. It suggests that every one of those stars has another blood-thirsty alien race inhabiting it, and only a few light-years separate them from us. Makes the spine go all cold.
Truly this box art is a masterpiece. Not only does it have genuine ?wow? appeal, but its awesomeness rating is through the roof and it is entirely faithful to the subject matter. Destroy All Humans! was a commercial success way back in 2005, and with such astonishing images as this promoting it, is it any surprise? Print it off, blow it up, stick it on your wall.

What's with all the DAH threads? Is it International DAH Day or something?
I agree though, that is some good box art. I had never heard of the game when it came out but I saw the box on the shelf and just decided to buy it because it looked awesome.

Yeah, I only noticed that after posting. I have no idea what's going on, either.

I think DAH will become one of those "cult games" in future years, with a moderately-sized following of devoted fans. I have every intention of being among them ^_^

Dammit, now I wish I still had my copy of DAH. I used to love flying around rockwell incinerating everything with my saucer's fully upgraded heat ray. Good times...
