I know it looks bad right now but... a couple days ago i finished crisis core:FF7 on psp.Cloud and Sephiroth were always called the best characters ever etc. But after i played through crisis core i saw Cloud and Sephiroth's past.It makes them grow as characters and seem that much more epic.Previously unexplained things about them are revealed and it helps them seem much more real. Now back on topic, the DMC reboot could do just this, it could explain how Dante became the demon hunter we know and love today, and even make the older games more enjoyable because of how Dante's past will now be revealed. It could make the connection between Dante and the player much deeper. This COULD happen...or it could ruin the series.I guess we'll have to *takes glasses off* wait and DMC.
Again I must stress that this discussion is not about whether the game will be good or not. This is a discussion on how seeing what they did to Dante makes you, the fans, feel. Are you excited for the possibilities this represents? Or are you like me and just feeling like you have been betrayed? Or are you of another position entirely. Forget about the game for a moment, and instead think only about the story, and what will happen to a hero of millions.

Edit, on the gameplay standpoint I do have an opinion however. Heavenly sword was a pile of hyped up trash, and HOW DARE THE CREATORS OF THAT SHIT EVEN THINK THEY CAN TOUCH DEVIL MAY CRY!?

My god. You guys are the same awful kinds of demanding, how-dare-they fans who made Sucker Punch change Infamous 2's Cole McGrath from the younger, handsome (and much more appropriate) look back to that awful middle-aged meth-cooker look.

Let's get something straight: Dante was not "cool." He was a snotty, ridiculous, poorly written caricature of what Japanese people thought a "badass" American was like. Dante gets treated like he's Clint fucking Eastwood, and most of his lines are completely interchangeable with that of Jak's sidekick Daxter.

They haven't ruined an iconic gaming badass. Solid Snake is an iconic gaming badass. Kain is an iconic gaming badass. John Marston, hell even Master Chief. Dante is written as a flashy douchebag who's cringingly out of touch.

You're all going to buy the game anyway, so you need to seriously get over yourselves. There are so many other things to argue about.

he's fine as an original character. just dont compare him to the old dante. which you shouldnt be doing anyway. that guy's been in 3 games already (i'm not counting DMC2 dante cuz that was most definitely not the same dante) so it's about time we got an original character.

The guys at Capcom said that this game was an origin story and they knew everybody would hate the new Dante and that are pressing on anyways. So everybody, get ready to play a gmae with the man once hailed as "The Coolest Video Game Character" reduced to a teenage brat... I don't care if he gets his old look back at the end of the game. Why? Cause it's at the END of the game. Capcom, you have two strikes against you now. First you refuse to make another Megaman X game and now this?? Good job, you're the second most hated video game publisher in the world.

I welcome it, especially since this guy seems to still be Dante, from what we've seen; He's a badass, he's a punk, but, oh wait, he doesn't have white hair and has apparent mental issues! Yeah, because he obviously came out of the womb with white hair and his original attitude, that totally makes sense.

Also, before anyone goes "THIS IS ALL NINJA THEORY'S FAULT! DEATH TO NINJA THEORY! THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IN THE HANDS OF THE ORIGINALS! HUR DUR!"

Yeah.... the original developers are the ones who wanted and made the changes to Dante's character.
If you want to blame anyone then blame all the people who hated Nero, Dante's story was over, they couldn't take it further which was why he passed the torch onto Nero, but everyone bitched and moaned about an actually pretty interesting character, so instead of finding out if Nero is a reincarnation of Virgil, and what exactly he's going to do next, we've got this. Don't ***** and moan if you can't handle the consequences (I'm not trying to specifically say that you bitched and moaned about Nero, that line just seemed like a cool way to finish this)

Did you read my post? We feel the same way about original Dante, but I hate the new one anyway. This is because they turned him from the kind of guy I'd kick in the nuts for speaking into the kind of guy that makes my skin crawl and my arms reflexively grab the nearest weapon.

Edit: fixed a word.
Sorry, I didn't see that. And it obviously wasn't directed at you, or any one in particular.

Though my point, I think, is still valid: Who gives a shit! At this point, everybody who might have played the game in the first place has already made up their minds on whether or not they're going to do so. And the joke is that most of the biggest detractors of the redesign are going to play the game anyway! If you hate the redesigned Dante, that is literally the opposite of what you need to do to get your point across.

DMC fans, the truth is that if you truly hate the character design, you CANNOT buy this game. Because supporting the product will only serve to validate something you've spent months and months pissing and moaning about.

And if you hate the redesign, but it isn't enough to keep you from buying the game, then what's the point of talking about it? Your anger is invalidated by your intent to buy it anyway. You can't denounce something and then turn around and support the product if you actually want to affect the change you want.

I am (probably rather obviously) not going to buy this game, but as far as I'm concerned, I'll take a sour-puss who's too miserable for his own good over an insufferable tool who cann't keep his mouth shut 11 times out of 10.

I've gotta admit, I only recently got into DMC, and after playing DMC 4 and watching the DMC anime, I came to admire the bad-assery of Dante...

Then I saw this new 'Dante' and I thought to myself... ''da fuck is this shit''

Seriously, it's like everything that made me think Dante was a badass just got shotgunned in the chest and stumbled out the window of a 40 story building.

Other than the slams against Dante (I'm sorry, he's still a badass; if you want, just ignore DMC3 in favor of DMC1...or hell, DMC2), I'm pretty much in agreement. Something about using the phrase "fan loyalty" for any game that isn't an MMO just reeks of entitlement.

And I'm still looking forward to this.

As long as the game play is still the same I couldn't give a rats ass. Besides, brooding emo vs arrogant male stripper? Not so much a downgrade as a step to the side.

"The original concepts that came back for Dante were actually extremely close to the Dante everyone knows and loves," Svensson explained. "The feedback that came back from [Keiji] Inafune and [Hideaki] Itsuno was, 'No guys, this needs to be completely different, we need you to go much further and be much more creative.'"

"This is meant to be an origin story, so this is Dante before you knew who Dante was," he explained. "There is going to be some interesting changes and twists to what people think they know about Dante or where he came from. We aren't planning on deviating greatly from the path that is there."

I will give this game a chance. I mean, I won't exactly be running to the front of the queue on release day, more like I will wait until it is cheap. It probably won't be as good as DMC 3, but I hope that this will exceed expectations and not completely kill off the series. I guess we will have to wait and see.
