Nope. I don't want to deal with assholes online, and I don't want to have to rely on my shitty internet just to play a single player game.

I hear there are alternatives to Diablo 3. Will be looking into those first.

Blizzard will have to work really hard to convince me that this game is worth my money. And, frankly, every new bit of information I learn about the game turns me off of it more and more (which is the same thing that's happening to me with Skyrim, only Bethesda isn't being an asshole as Blizzard is; they're simply making bad gameplay decisions, not PR ones).

But it goes like this: Torchlight 2 is coming out, so I don't see why I should deal with the hassle.

I live out in the middle of no ware, and my internet connection blows, its passable most of the time, but the odd time the weather will throw a fit and it'll start cutting out every 5 seconds, Ive tried everything I can think of to fix it, including replacing just about everything associated with it, I think that my house is possessed.
Anyways, point I'm trying to get to is I don't want to get booted out of my single-player game, that I have no interest in ever going multiplayer for, just because its cloudy out.
I know I'm a shrinking minority here, but I also know I cant be the only one, and I cant see any good reason for doing it.
anyways Blizzard has been pissing me off with its policies ever since it announced no LAN support for starcraft 2, so I'm not just boycotting diablo 3, I'm never going to buy any product with a Blizzard label ever again, kind of sad really, it looked like a good game, but this is really the only way gamers can get heard, cause if it still sells, they'll keep doing it.

TL:DR. Nope not buying it, or any other blizzard games

You'll see, trust me. It's going to be a new dark age for gaming, I think. Read up on what's going on over at EVE Online.

I don't begrudge the concept, and I accept that people will pay stupid amounts of cash for virtual objects, but I lament that one day not far from now it might be possible that I simply can't pick up and buy a game for a set price and get the whole game in one package, that any proper experience with a game will require a steady stream of income to purchase it, piece by piece, with no proper end in sight. Blizzard is going to get us used to the idea of micro-transactions as a way of life. Even though we wouldn't pay to see a movie that stops every fifteen minutes until we feed a machine another dollar....we're going to end up doing exactly that for games.
....but that day arrived years ago.
What do you think DLC is?
Look at the Sims 3 - 50% of content missing from day one as you have to buy it. ME2 - you want all the characters and storyline? Well don't expect to get that in one of our games!

With this method, at least you can make some money back and abuse people who have to pay to win rather then just losing out.
Pffft... as much as I hate to accept it I agree with you. It's not just enough to ship a AAA title sold at a premium, nope. You have to sell at least the cost of the original game bits and pieces of extra content.

There is no good way about this I suppose. To use Mass Effect 2 as an example, there's a wealth of extra content, content that one could argue should be part of the game proper. Still, if that wasn't doable I'm really grateful that I got to have some sort of closure for the game's dangling plotlines BEFORE the sequel.

And to get on topic I say:

Always online? I mean who isn't always online when playing a game, console or otherwise?

Money AH: It could get real ugly or it could make Diablo stand out from the rest. We'll see.

Well, I got stuck at chess meets a lot to help my father out, even though he had nothing for me to do rather than help unpack and repack. And the wi-fi there blew chunks. Having NWN2 was the only thing that kept it going.

Let me ask you: Is there a good reason that they don't allow an offline mode? They should be giving us a good reason, not vice-versa. It's this aditude that game corps have that we owe them constant loyalty and that we must frequently prove we do.

I'm not boycotting it, because I wasn't going to buy it. I can barely run Neverwinter Nights 2 on my PC, so I doubt I could handle that.

Ok, two points. First, the no offline support is just a different take on DRM that I honestly think is more palatable. Instead of saying it can only be installed on X computers, you can play on infinite computers, fully transfer all characters, at the cost of signing in with your user name.

...

So, if you are boycotting a game for strictly moral principles, make sure the designers are actually doing something wrong.
Always online for single player and DRM are wrong. Blizzard will probably lose a lot more money by making it online only than they would from pirates. Inconveniencing a paying customer is never the right move. Most of the time, my internet is great. But occasionally I'll lose my internet connection and it is always invariably on a friday afternoon with a federal holiday on monday so my internet won't be back up for DAYS. You know what I like to do when I don't have the internet to entertain me? I like to play games. This isn't a moral principle, it's an "I want to be able to play my game" principle. Also, the lack of mod support is a big deal, because sometimes I just like to get some fun mods and play some LAN games with friends.

You know what game has all of those options? Torchlight 2. Runic games has decided not to be a dick to me, so I'm going to be using my money to buy from them instead of Blizzard, and many of my friends are doing the same.

No offline play?

I may have a constant connection but that doesn't make me a happy gamer.

Nah, I was looking forward to this game when it was looking like a simple dungeon crawler with some possibility of single player (however minimal). Now it just looks like a less interesting version of WoW.

..then again, I guess Diablo 2 was like that too. Maybe this subgenre doesn't appeal to me anymore.

[sub]Then there's the issue of always-on DRM. And by "the issue of always-on DRM" I mean fuck always-on DRM. It's ridiculous.[/sub]

I already preordered the Collector's Edition so yes,I'm gonna get it.

At first I was a bit mad about the changes with the real auction house, but the "always online" mode doesn't bother me at all since I play MMO's daily and I have a constant internet connection.

All this ruckus about the auction house really shouldn't really matter.I think hardcore players will still beat the ones that ask their parents for money to buy powerful equipment.

I do wonder how many people will be interested in the PvP arena rather than teaming up with their friends and dungeon crawling together through nightmare mode(for example).

As long as I can play the game on my own without having to deal with other people unless I want to I don't really care about all this other shit that seems to be pissing people off so much.

So you have to have an always on internet connection? How many of the people bitching about this issue have Steam installed and play games on it regularly?

So they're having auction houses where people can buy and sell equipment and Blizzard takes a nominal flat fee from each transaction. Blizzard says they aren't going be directly selling equipment and no one's forcing you to use this feature so why are you bitching again?

I may or may not being picking this up on release day but I'll get it eventually because I've enjoyed the hell out of the other Diablo games. I'll also be getting Torchlight II and Grim Dawn if it ever comes out.

Yes, Blizzard has yet to fail me on a game and I don't think this is going to be an exception.

Plus the people who are refusing to buy the game seem to be the stuck-up snobs that the game will probably be better off without anyway.
People who cant play the game because of poor internet connctions are stuck up snobs?
Sorry but that sounds pretty stupid to me
I think you missed the point here. They aren't saying people who can't play because they have bad connections, they're talking about people who have good connections, but refuse to buy the game for some goofy reason.

OT: I honestly don't have a problem with these developments. They've been working toward full online play for a while (particularly through the ongoing success smash that is World of Warcraft and more recently with how Starcraft II is constantly linked to your battle.net account), and the two different auction houses should be interesting (and, if nothing else, might give poor college students like me a chance to make a little spending money doing something I enjoy).

I have a good connection, but I'm still not going to buy the game unless it has a proper single player that doesn't require internet, since I've been stuck away from home without internet several times.

I don't play the Diablo games, or Borderlands, for its multiplayer. It's nice to play with friends, but my main focus is the singleplayer story, which should not *require* internet. Period.

Where is the "Yes" option?

Honestly, I have never understood the complaint about always on internet requirements, it's more likely than not at this stage, no? sure it sucks that you can't really take it on a business trip or whatever but aren't there better, single player games for that?

About the auction house...well, sure it's not needed, I won't be using it as getting your own loot is more satisfying, but if there are people who care enough to spend real money on it, then i'd rather the money go to Blizzard and the players than people using the suspicious sites for it where they could have details stolen etc as they have done with D2.
Finally someone with the same answer as me xD. Internet high five lol.

But yeah, the auction house thing never bothered me at all for the reason listed above, I would rather farm the gear or the gold to buy said gear off the gold auction house myself, the cash one is just there for people who want to use it, and all in all is an absolute good.

Ynow, aside from all the bile its bringing out of people, but the opinion of people on the interwebz is rarely a good representation of somethings actual value.

As for the internet thing, I don't see myself playing a diablo game alone much anyways, and when I do, there's always private matches, having to have an internet access isn't really a factor since the only time I spend on my computer without internet is spent trying to get the internet back on.

Edit: But yeah just incase it's not implied, I am buying the game on day one, even if my laptop ends up not being able to run the damn thing xD.

Ya I'll buy it when it's $20 or less, dungeon crawlers really aren't my thing anymore but when in the bargain bin it's good for a laugh.
