Personally, I have a couple of problems with the game.

But this... This takes the cake:

So they were all in the same orphanage and no one remembers... Ok, so we have the Guardian Forces to blame for that (still a moronic reason.) But really, Irvine? You find your childhood friends all together as part of an elite military group led by the headmaster of said orphanage against his wife and you just never realize that the information may be relevant?

Haven't you ever seen wanted? clearly the bullet curved around everything to come at her at the right angle!

But really, I can see how this shot may be possible... Given that the shooter is very high up, and that the back of the float is not all that tall (at 4:05 you can see the guy standing on the float, assuming hes about 6ft the float back is likely close to or under 10 feet tall) it is possible that edea was far enough towards the front of the float for a shot to be available. This seems to be the case, as when the shot is deflected there is no sight of her seat being near her. Also she apears to be beyond the radius of that neon halo, which from earlier we can see that would put her close to the edge of the float.

However, this is still silly because from a planning point of view, as there is no way to know if she would move to a position that gives a clear shot.

*edit* look at the 4 minute mark, if you picture her standing at the front of the float, you can see that the angle required for a clear shot isnt that high. From the top of the building it should be possible. Also for height reference, they apear to be about the same height as the top of the arch.

Yeah it's my favourite too, I think people only dislike it because of the junctioning system which really isn't as hard as people make it out to be.
Junction is the reason that final fantasy 8 is easy. Junction 100 tornadoes (which you can draw from enemies in any plain open field in the game) to strength and 100 hastes to speed and you've just beaten the game before you've even gotten to deling city. :p

What direction is Ultimecia facing at the time? is that even her "real" body that blocks the bullet? She is presumably standing on a platform, unobstructed, nowhere near the throne in which she was sitting nor is the float (or the iron gates, for that matter) visible at all from any angle as the bullet strikes. Note also the brighter flash of light before the bullet strikes, and Ultimicia's previously and later noted ability to teleport in a blue flash...

Additionally, you'll notice as Squall drives up afterward, the back of the float is wide open; blown glass and neon decoration, with intricate, but hardly solid metallic artwork. Nothing solid directly obstructs view nor bullet from a high angle. The only reason it's not obvious to the audience is the abundance of ambient, low-level lighting, which casts the "interior" of the float in shadow, neither of which would have obscured Irvine's view from their positions.

Also, it's a fantasy game... you have people summoning giant monsters and magical fireballs, etc., by effectively shoving those inside their bodies (ew!), not to mention an horrific timetravel/time paradox scenario, absorbing sword blows, magic spells, bullets, and the force of gravity itself wearing nothing more than cloth dresses and leather coats and the occasional magical soda can... and THIS is what breaks your immersion?

Besides... the float clearly turns left and heads down the street in that direction, how did it then become trapped in the gate directly across the plaza from the mansion?

One more thing... you can embed youtube videos by simply typing "youtube=*" in brackets with the video id code (the sequence of letters after "v=" and before any "&" in the video's url) replacing the *.

I loved this game :( Had no idea it was so vilified.
Thats probably because its an older game and the only time anyone talks about it is when talking about the best and the worst FF games. People seem to never be just neutral, they just seem to either hate it or love it.

This was actually the pint where I threw my hands up and quit that mess. That game is just bad, and I felt bad playing it. The problems are numerous, the plat and the character's actions (all of them) were downright insulting.

I commend (possibly fear) the person with the constitution it takes to tolerate his game.

[modest hyperbole ends here]
Yes, the characters are pretty much some of the blandest people I have ever met. All but (maybe) two of them develop in any degree and even then it isn't much.
Oh my crap those typos (in my post). I need a new keyboard :\

I waited for them to get better, I really wanted to care about what was going on, hoping that at least a good character driven narrative would salvage what remained of the game, but alas it was a perfect storm of tropes (before I even understood the concept of tropes), to the point I knew what they were going to do before they did it, what they would say, how they would act; at first it bored me, then I felt honestly very offended they thought I'd want to be fed such garbage. The writing never really got better in the series, just more convoluted, and won't say it started with VII, but that game really did set the bar for just being a terrible JRPG.

Holy crap... that makes no sense. Good catch.

It's still such an epic scene. I don't get all the hate for ff8. It's one of my favorites.
I hate it because FUCK THE DRAWING SYSTEM! I also hated how your stats were linked to summons.
