This post is hilarious - you attempt to justify how different this game with from GTA IV with the most inane and tiny changes between the two; after seeing this post I'm even more convinced it's a paste of GTA IV - if those are the only massive changes between the games.King of the Sandbox said:The leap from GTA IV to this is astounding. Anyone who says it's the same game with horses cut and pasted is a flat out moron for spouting off about something without any idea what they're talking about.
Can you hunt animals and skin them to earn money in GTA IV? No?
Well, can you use that money to buy items, aside from just clothes and weapons, like animal bait, and horse pills, etc, etc? No?
Ok, well, can you play blackjack, hold'em, liar's dice, five finger fillet or horseshoes for money and fame? No?
Didn't think so.
Firstly, I was attempting to point out the differences between the two. Of course they run on the same engine, I never claimed otherwise, but the sheer volume of additions (there are waaaaay more than I mentioned) is extremely notable. It's not a simple graphics upgrade with a new mini-game thrown in, it has enough content for, honestly, two games. The multiplayer alone is a diverse, enriched experience unto itself.D_987 said:This post is hilarious - you attempt to justify how different this game with from GTA IV with the most inane and tiny changes between the two; after seeing this post I'm even more convinced it's a paste of GTA IV - if those are the only massive changes between the games.King of the Sandbox said:The leap from GTA IV to this is astounding. The games are similar - they run on the same engine, are designed in a similar way - this is a wild west version on an enhanced GTA IV engine, quite literally - sure they're some neat new touches to the formula, but it's still a GTA-esque game at heart. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't make yourself look like a fool in saying otherwise.
But you're talking about obvious differences - if the core gameplay is identical then it's a GTA copy and paste with Western themes - you know, that thing you claimed only "morons" would think? You're wrong - simple as, based on your description of the game. The fact you insulted anyone who didn't agree with you just makes your next comment incredibly ironic...King of the Sandbox said:Firstly, I was attempting to point out the differences between the two. This is getting to be a problem on these forums - you don't seem to know what a troll is, or you're just acting deliberately ignorant. It it appears that any-time someone points out someone else's mistake they're called a troll...Secondly, be civil, lest I mistakenly detect troll ire, please.
Wait, what? Firstly, there IS multiplayer. You can enter with a bunch of other players into Free Roam - which is basically the entire single player game. You can form a posse and attack bandit hideouts for loot and cash. There's also separate multiplayer games like deathmatches and loot grab. There is no trading post that I know of, and really, I don't think there could be one with the mechanics of this game.imahobbit4062 said:Depends on how they do it, Have a set price you can sell certain items. Nothing will be as painful as the wait for New Vegas though.
But that's like saying most sandbox games are cut and paste of eachother. For example would you say that GTA and Infamous are cut and paste, with the addition of special powers. I'll be honest, I haven't played a GTA since 3 but the core gameplay really hasn't changed all that much - and I would never ever say RDR is a copy and paste of GTA. Just the setting alone means the gameplay mechanics can't be the same. You can't shoot horses and have them explode some nearby enemies. In fact, I don't think anything really explodes. No grenades or assault rifles. No tanks or choppers. Most people carry guns so if you were to try and steal a horse, expect to get shot at. Or you can try to get a wild horse, but then you have to lasso it and break it. You can do treasure hunting with some really vague treasure maps. Just yesterday I had to herd some cattle. Now, maybe if this whole game took place in a city based in the western era you could have a point, but most towns aren't more than a few buildings huddled together and the rest of it is vaste planes and canyons and the like. In that respect it's far, far more like Fallout 3 than GTA.D_987 said:But you're talking about obvious differences - if the core gameplay is identical then it's a GTA copy and paste with Western themes - you know, that thing you claimed only "morons" would think? You don't seem to understand the concept behind the whole "cut and paste" argument. If a game has a small gameplay differences (such as small gameplay addition like hunting) or different mini-games (as you mentioned) but retains the same core mechanics, and gameplay styling as another, then the "cut and paste" argument is viable. It's an enhanced GTA IV with a Western theme.

As previously stated if anything the fact you're claiming anyone that disagrees with you is a "moron" could be classed as flaming - therefore if anything you're acting in a troll-like manner, of course without the subtlety.
I live in North America and I have to wait till tommorow for my copy too. (I hate slow mail order services) *curls into ball*Dante18907 said:*curls up in a ball in the corner and rocks back and forth staring malevolently at the clock*
If you haven't played GTA IV you can't really compare them, so I'm not really sure why I'm even replying - your opinion is pretty much worth nothing...Wolfram01 said:But that's like saying most sandbox games are cut and paste of eachother. So your argument is as paper-thin as the other persons - the core mechanics are extremely similar to GTA IV in that your character controls, the way cover "feels", the mission structure - the very core of the game is pretty much GTA IV-styled, because that's the way Rockstar do things. Driving a tank isn't a core part of GTA (to name an example you mentioned above)Just the setting alone means the gameplay mechanics can't be the same. Again, you're looking far to much into the areas rather than the core mechanics - to the point in which this paragraph is completely pointless...Just yesterday I had to herd some cattle. If you'd played the two you'd know they (MW2 and BC2) "feel" completely different - likewise the style of play and character movement are extremely different - this point has...no relevance. Some mechanics are similar, some things are borrowed, but the game is still different in nature. I mean you can argue semantics all you want, you could start calling BC2 a pure MW2 ripoff - excuse me, "copy and paste".
You completely missed my point entirely and went off on a tangent - you don't seem to understand exactly what you're arguing about in the first place. But you'd be wrong. Similarities do not equate to being copy and pasted ripoffs.
Holy fucking hell man give it up. You're not even arguing your own point, someone said "Wild West GTA? I really don't see the appeal. But I'm sure it's a good game, that's what everyone keeps saying anyway." then King of the Sandbox pointed out a few of the things that make RDR unique, and you start spouting off about how "core gameplay is cut and paste" like suddenly that's the argument here and not that the GAMES ARE COMPLETELY EFFING DIFFERENT - even tho it's still 3rd person, there's still guns, there's still the sandbox gameplay, and there's still good guys and bad guys. Sure, why not? TONS of games have those elements. But the whole feel of the game is changed. Try it before trying to make such generalizations. It's a dishonor to RDR to be putting the "GTA Western" label on it.D_987 said:If you haven't played GTA IV you can't really compare them, so I'm not really sure why I'm even replying - your opinion is pretty much worth nothing...Wolfram01 said:But that's like saying most sandbox games are cut and paste of eachother. You could call Fallout 3 and Mass Effect copy and paste games. You could call FIFA and NHL games copy and paste.
No, you couldn't - not sure where you got those ideas from.
