Wow what a franchise eh?
Something me and my friends grew up with.
Overrated or not nobody can deny the significant advancements it has made in it's genre.

If Reach is indeed the last true Halo game from Bungie then i guess that's it for the series?

Did you enjoy it?

I certainly did. Not one of my top favourites but I still like the games.

EDIT: I meant to also say the series as a whole. Each individual game might have its flaws, but i'm wondering if you enjoyed the series as a whole.

Oh hell yeah, the series is awesome! It was getting little stale for me when Reach showed up but it's more my fault for playing so much of the first four games that I kind of wore myself out. Still, I'll probably pick up Reach once I can get it really cheap.

I think the first one was a truly great game, I dont really care what other people say. It was fun, felt different (compared to other games at the time like Nightfire) and was the best split screen multiplayer since Goldeneye on the N64. However it often falls victim to the "It's popular so it must be shit" attitude that many people around the internet tend to have.

Number 2 was pretty good, although the Arbriter did feel kind of tacked on. It was different enough to feel like a true sequel, but it just didnt have that lasting image like the first game.

Number 3 was mediocre at best, and pretty much deserves all the hate it got. Only redeeming quality in my mind was the Spartan Laser, which I have to admit is one of my favorite weapons of all time. Also, copy/pasting the ending of Halo 1 DOES NOT make for a good ending. It was awesome the first time, but the second time felt a little forced.

I havent gotten to play ODST or Reach yet, and I cant really say for sure whether I'll like them or not. ODST looks meh, but Reach looks pretty fun.

As my attitude sits right now, the first one was Epic, and none of the sequels can capture the brilliance the first one had.

I've played the first three--I fucking love the first Halo's campaign--but I haven't played Reach or ODST.

And the last I've touched Halo is 2007, at a friends house where we played the co-op campaign of Halo 3 in one sitting.

Only with friends.
Also, I feel like the only person in the world who actually loved ODST sometimes.

Strangely enough, ODST is probably the most relaxing shooter i've ever played. Music is just soooo soothing. xD

I enjoyed them for the most part. I began to dislike them as the series went on, but it was never not fun to play, in my opinion.

I don't think any of the Halo games are bad, look at it's popularity it's done something right.Personally I enjoyed all of them, some more or less.I gotta say though if it weren't for the Eric Nylund novels I probably would of never played anymore after 2,and speaking of 2 that was hands down my favorite game in the series.

It's not the end of the series. Though Bungie was the developer, and responsible for much of the story, the overall plot (including all the backstory stuff from the other media, like books and the anime) is subject to approval and such from Microsoft Game Studios as well. Since Microsoft are therefore in charge overall, they've created a new studio, 343 Studios, to continue the franchise both in games and other media, effectively replacing Bungie after Bungie called it quits. Anyway, the 343 Studios team has basically said they'll try and stay true to what Bungie did, so we don't need to worry about them messing up canon or anything in any future games, and I'm glad, personally, because I definitely don't want to see the franchise end just yet. And Microsoft certainly aren't 'milking it', whatever the haters say, at least no more than other franchises that never get called out for the amount of media and games they put out (things like Mario, Final Fantasy, Sonic, Street Fighter, Gran Turismo, etc...).

In case t wasn't obvious from that, I'm something of a Halo fanboy, though I'm smart enough too to realise when something is bad in the series and to accept that regardless. And thus to answer the original question, yes, I enjoyed the Halo series greatly, and still do :).

Reach definitely isn't "it" for the series, it's just the last one that'll be good. Microsoft will definitely dig up some of that MJOLNIR armor and repackage it as a new game.

As it stands now, yeah I enjoyed the series. I know it may be cliche, but I really enjoyed the game's story and the history it set up.
I am a sci-fi nerd, though, so I may be biased.

It introduced me to the FPS genre and it is still incredibly fun. I used to play Lockout in Halo 2 all the time after school and I call my 360 my "Halo playing machine" because that series is basically the only game I still play on it.

I loved it. Of course I may seem biased since I'm the owner of the Halo Fans group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Halo-Fans](We're having a game Saturday, join the group and sign up for it!).

But shameless plugs aside, I really enjoyed it. The games are fun to play, the story is nice, not too in your face but deep enough for people who are willing to dig into the lore and whatnot, they're just fun games.

It will probably start feeling more like a milked series though, or maybe not, but I do have 5 Halo games, so yeah. 7 if you count Halo and Halo 2 on the PC. Bungie made as many games as they wanted, then left. It'll be interesting to see what 343 does with the series, but I can't help but feel Microsoft will cock it up somehow.

I played Halo 1 and 2 and I thought the singleplayer on both was very mediocre...

Not a multiplayer kinda person so I can't comment on that aspect.
