I just read a thread about 10 to 12-year-olds acting acting all tough and messing around with older kids and I couldn't help but wonder, didn't their parents hit them? I always knew that if I fucked up, my dad would be all over me like stank on shit. Corporal punishment seems to be a dying trend with parents today. Do parents just not hit their kids anymore? Mine sure did, but I really needed it. I want to hear from you on this one.
-Note: I'm not talking about child abuse here, I'm talking about you misbehaving and your parents hitting you as a punishment. Please, don't say anything bad about 'old school' parents here, we don't need this kind of hate here.

Sometimes when I was little, nothing to complain about, beating can be good for children if it's moderated and reasoned.

Once or twice, I think it did me good to be honest. They never abused it, and I learnt my lesson.

In the EU they are trying to outlaw it completely, this is stupid because any parent willing to seriously harm their child will do so regardless of the legality of it, whereas parents who need to discipline their child will be treated as criminals for doing so.

Very rarely, but yes. Nothing to complain about, though, it was all in moderation - and I did deserve it when it was dished out.

My parents whupped me when I deserved it, and I'm thankful that they did.

Yes, when I deserved it. We're talking slaps 'round the arse and thighs, not punches to the head. and now I'm a 3rd year law student who has been in a relationship with the same girl since I was 15 (I'm 22). I never saw it as child abuse, simply making a child associate displeasure with doing something they shouldn't. They do not fear it, they simply dislike it. The same way that I know I will be burned if I touch a hot stove, it's the same principle. I don't fear the stove, but I know not to touch it.

Well, it just became illegal here in Norway, if you as much as slap their hand, it's child abuse.

Yes, but it was only on the arm or my hand, they would never strike me in the face. Also it was only when I was really misbehaving.

I had the typical "spanking" since my parents believed it was biblical to do so. My mother would whack the palms of my hands with a wooden spoon if I broke anything. Though, any sort of physical "punishment" immediately stopped about the time I turned eleven or so.

Though, when I was thirteen, there was a moment where I pissed my dad off. He punched me in the stomach and then proceeded to lift me into the air with said fist. Then moved his hand so I fell. When I think about the whole thing, I really just think of my dad as an awesome super villain giving the hero that one dramatic blow.

My parents are very loving and caring people, though. Don't let these scenarios shock you in any way. I have a friend who lives on his own come to my house (he's always questioned why I haven't moved out of my house despite my reasonings) state, "I see why you live here. Your parents are actually nice."

I actually read the thread that the OP was talking about.

Personally, I think spanking is appropriate. But full on beatings?
No way, man. Just a quick pop.

When I was spanked at ages seven and below. Once they realized it didn't hurt they issued the groundings and cleaning up as punishments.

A few smacks, but not often or hard. Just when I was acting like a prick and I was under... 5, say.

My dad preferred to use psychological torture. He's got a twisted sense of humour.

Makes it sound worse than it was but really, yeah my Dad just used to mess with me instead of anything physical. The few times he did there go physical there was no need to repeat 'cause I learned my lesson.

Bad thread is bad.

My mother was a insane little blond, she's currently in prison. But on other news, it was always fun watching her bewildered look after I skipped away from the beatings. Hoorah for reverse psychology!

^^this.

I get pissed off listening to dumb ass liberals going off about child abuse like they knew what they were talking about... I am in school for child psychology, and I VERY strongly believe that a spanking is completely within acceptable bounds for discipline. The child will usually respond to a physical punishment where something like a "time out" won't teach them a damn thing.

Oh yeah, and to answer your question: Yes, I was spanked as a child, and it did me no harm. meanwhile, my 5 year old brother is growing up in the age of pussy parents, not allowed to be spanked, according to the law of my home country... and he is bad. Like, social deviant bad. Time out's are a joke, and he knows it. I bet he wouldn't be a little shit like that if he new a spanking was imminent.

P.S. Not trying to say liberals are dumb asses... just that anti-spanking liberals are dumb asses.
